Hey /trv/ I want to go on an epic quest to find an ancient artifact. My original plan since I was 10 was to find the holy grail ,but apparently two Spanish dudes found that last year. I looked up ark of the covenant and that too had been found and in some Ethiopian secret church. Do you guys know any ancient treasures that haven't been found yet? If so please list them so I can do some research. My final backup plan will be trying to find the fountain of youth if I can find anything that is calling me in the suggestions.

OP, outside of the epic level of this dream, you can find vacations that pair you with scientists doing scientific research, whether riding in a boat tagging sharks or whales...to digging in dirt with archaeologists. Think colleges for the latter, as place to look. Free hands from people who are paying their own way "is a thing" most of the time. If you want to do it in style, you get on a cruise that has some rotating weekly experts giving lectures and doing fun things in port. From mountaineering guides to botanists, to ornithologist types. Plentyyyy of work for those that want to help protect sea turtle nests, mark them, guard them, watch, etc.

When it comes to black market art, it exists, and until someone dies, it stays in the black market trade.

Right now, collectibles (like art and memorabilia) is the highest prices it's ever been ,because ECONOMIES ARE CRUD, it's sort of like the thing to do when investing at times like this. When your government has a devalued currency, gold is boring, art just goes up and up from the demand to invest your money there, you see.

Spear is pretty spooky. Supposedly Hitler was fascinated by the spear at a young age and when he was rising to power stole it from the museum. Hitler shot himself days after his spear was retrieved by USA.

That's in NW Yunnan province, China. One overnight bus ride from Lijiang or Dali.

It's an ethnically Tibetan town, not far from the border and has a large Tibetan monastery that you can go visit.

The holy grail and the ark of the covenant likely never actually existed.

So my suggestion is to pick an artifact that nobody knows the appearance of. That way you can easily claim it to be some genuine lost treasure.

I used to have those Indiana Jones Duck Tales dreams of finding ancient lost artifacts. I did graduate with a BA in Cultural Anthropology, I did apply to several cultural resource management positions, but they don't want me since I don't have a masters or field school. I eventually had to bury those dreams.

But I bought a metal detector. And finding all the coins and lost knickknacks beneath your feet is still pretty interesting too.
