>>1045273>>1045293Not that guy, and this thread isn't really /trv/-relevant, but I also dated some Thai women (lived for many years in Thailand).
My longest and most successful relationship was with a very 'good girl,' from a respectable, upcountry, middle-class family (girls from somewhat more working-class backgrounds, some very rich girls with very international upbringings, and bigger-city girls in general, tend to be more likely than my ex-girlfriend's sort to date farang, but that is neither here nor there). It was a good relationship, and we had a lot in common (academic parents, similar taste in music, similar interests), but because she was small-town middle class, there were tensions around saving face and maintaining her reputation. We didn't go on many dates alone, since she didn't want other Thai women to mistake her for a prostitute or gold-digger--they could be really, really rude. Her parents knew me as her coworker and friend; they probably knew we were dating but it was sort of an unspoken, open secret.
They certainly didn't know that we were basically living together (she had her own apartment and a female roommate, but she stayed at my place most of the time).
Our relationship finally ended when it reached the point that in order to stay together we would have to get married, and that wasn't what either of us wanted--she wanted to start a new job, I wanted to go to grad school. So we split up. But we're still friends, years later--my wife and I stayed with her husband and family a couple of years ago.
