Au Pair?

Does anyone have any experience with Au Pair travel? I'm an american wanting to travel somewhere else, and au pair places sound like good ways to go.

What's the best agencies for them? Or websites?

My sister went to Italy and loved it. She said it's even open for men nowadays as well as some parents want a male guardian for their son, in the past it was mostly dominated by women. I can't remember the site she used, but the people on the site fired her after a month, but she was able to find a second job when she was there, and had that for around 2 years.

I have a friend (US) who did this is germany. It seems like her experience was pretty shitty. She hardly got time off to travel, and she said she was basically the family slave. She said the family would disconnect the internet when they went out to work every day so she couldnt use it. She also said they were generally just assholes to her.

I think she got pretty good at speaking german though, so theres that.

Your experience really depends on the family i assume.
