Im going to new york city in a couple of weeks, but the problem is im only 20 and thus im legally not allowed to drink alcohol there. Im from germany and this is very strange for me as ive been allowed to drink here for more than four years.

Is the drinking age strict in NY, and do any of you know any good plaves where my ID is not too likely to be checked?

The drinking age here in the U.S is taken pretty seriously everywhere. Any reputable bar or business that has anything to do with the sale or consumption of alcohol is going to ID you. Now, i have gotten served drinks several times when i was under age but that's only because i knew the bartender/waiter/host/clerk.

Just mix up some liquor in a bottle of soda and carry that around, or keep a small flask in a pocket. If you have friends there they'll get you all the alcohol you need so you don't really have to worry about this too much.

Its strict as fuck across the whole country. Every place will ID you because if they get busted selling to a minor its a huge fine on them

Nope. Best option is a fake ID which can be had for around $100 if you know who to ask

OP, you should take the opportunity to check out the dozens of churches we have on every street. There's probably three or four for every Starbucks.

A few years ago when I was in NY (I was about 20 at the time) I got into a bar/diner. As the night progressed and people were getting more intoxicated (and friendly) I was handed several drinks without once being ID'd. It was definitely a smaller bar and not on the 'more reputable' side. I guess you can just go out and try your luck but don't be surprised if you get rejected (most places will ID). You might be stuck giving your money to a stranger to buy you some brews.

Went to the US last year, I'm 32.

New York is less strict than rest of the country, but you're young, so expect to get your ID checked every time.

In Kansas City and San Diego I they checked my ID every single time, they even checked my boss' ID in SD, he's pushing 40.
