So I have two weeks' holidays booked from work, and have no fucking clue where to go.

I'm considering Austria, as Vienna looks amazing.

I like solo travelling, and have done it before, but what's Austria like for it? Is there much to do? Decent hostel and night life scene?t

Vienna is a terrific solo travel city. There's a museum a day enough for 2 or more years. I recommend a lovely day trip, maybe an overnight, to see the monastery in Melk, cruise/bike/train down there and back on the Danube.
No idea the clubbing scene, but cafes and al fresco dining is all over, is pretty seriously busy at night, even late night. I stayed in a hotel, not a hostel. It's a pricey city, so you might not be traveling at my budget and comfort demands, but of the Prague-Vienna-Budapest 3+ stars I did last year, it was comparably double the price of what I did other cities. Dine two meals from a grocery if you want to be thrifty.

I was supposed to do prague-budapest-vienna with my gf last year, I had to pull out (long story) so she went with a friend, always regretted not being able to go.

I'm not with her anymore, so considering that, but may also go Munich-Salzburg-Vienna as well.

I can spend a little more than I would have in the past when I was a student, so the pricing might not be too bad, but I'll see what my funds are like.

Bratislava is very skipable but worthy of a daytrip from Vienna (you might be the type that likes to cross of countries from their list).
