My wife and I were having this discussion the other day and could not come to an agreement. She was talking about how a black actor may be selected as the next James Bond and how it is causing a bit of a stink (I guess I've been living under a rock, or something, and this is the first I had heard of this). I personally thought it was stupid. James Bond simply is not black and never has been. Not that there couldn't be a super kick ass spy who also happened to be black, but his name wouldn't be James Bond, because James Bond is not black. Should the next James Bond be American? Or how about he be Chinese? Or, shit, why can't James Bond be a woman? I would be just as against this as I am about him being black. She thought I was being close minded and intolerant, but I completely disagree. If they came out tomorrow and said they were making a new Shaft movie or a new Blade movie and that those characters would be played by George Clooney or Brad Pitt I would say that is a bunch of bollocks. To me, it's just another case of a society that is so worried about inclusion and political correctness that we lose our grip on common sense. It's like someones always gotta be offended by something. I dunno...
