Imagine a situation where you fucked over some mafia gang and they're coming to kill you, but before killing you they're going to torture you for three days straight. Why wouldn't you kill yourself in that situation?
Or if you have cancer and you only have three weeks to live, and those three weeks are going to be filled with pain and misery.

Suicide takes a lot of courage in the moment, but it also speaks of a lack of courage to look on, wait, and introspect.
I think the big thing is that we convince ourselves its difficult or harms those around us to put ourselves at ease. Mentally putting it at the back of the top shelf behind plenty of other things to climb over before it becomes a real consideration.

Some people get to enjoy the most delicious, intricately put together meals while most languish in moderately tasty junk food. Suicide is leaving the restaurant. You don't get any more meals but it's understandable to leave if you're going to be served cat poop until the end of time. On the other hand, it's pretty dumb to leave because you get the occasionally unappetizing plate.

He did it right. He was used up artistically, at the end of his life anyway, and he made a conscious and objective evaluation that his life wasn't really worth living anymore.

Even if we heal the biosphere it's got about 3-4 billion years left.

If humanity is about finding meaning in a meaningless existence, then suicide is evil - if you accept that it's pointless, suicide is neutral, maybe even good.

People with terminal or painful illness - I get that. People who are mentally ill - I get that too, though treatment usually works to help that. Older people who feel they are simply enduring the end of life in a pointless waste of time - I also get that.

A healthy adult should recognize that they're going to die anyway and if nothing is pressuring them to kill themselves, there's really no reason to do what will happen to you eventually anyway.

I don't know if I would say cowardly, but it's lame as shit in 99.9% of circumstances. To just say there's nothing that you could do that would make you content, even if you don't know what it is, is an extremely naive way to think. To assume you know everything about life enough to make the decision to quit living it. If anything it's egotistical. Life is pretty short when you think about it, not even being able to tolerate it until something outside of your reasonable control is really the worst possible thing to do.

Really the only time it makes sense is if your death is already assured, and you just want to go on your own terms, like say you're on death row or in a concentration camp or something.

Robots will never replace people because if it isn't broken, don't fix it. Our current labor system isn't broken. The only people that would benefit are the people working shitty jobs. But those people will work those shitty jobs no matter what and it would require extremely advanced technology, by our standards, for automatons to cost less than people.

Also I like how you're arguing it'll be a long time before immortality is unlocked, but then using an even farther off scenario of robots replacing people.

That's the problem here. Humans are already a self-repairing, self-replenishing pool of cheap labor. Any replacement would have to be even cheaper, and it's really hard to find something cheaper than 17 cents a day.

Human error is a big problem with human labour. Waiting between 10 and 30 years for a labourer to mature to a useful position is hugely inefficient, considering the resources that would have to be funneled into training and providing basic human necessity. Even then, people are unreliable and someone who specializes in a particular needed field might not be good at it or could get sick and die.

You seem to think that immortality is a simple thing to pull off, some easy process that we'll have very shortly. It isn't close. At all.

It's so far off that our current political and economic models probably won't even be relevant to discuss as applying to them. Beyond that, the whims of someone removed totally from the natural order are totally unknowable.

Also I'm not arguing that poor people will be better off in this scenario - I'm arguing that they won't exist at all because they've been rendered obsolete and discarded.
