Those were his actual final words, according to the real Bob's letters. Bob goes on to say the picture was spotless, so he knew James was giving him the go ahead.

I read it before watching the movie in theaters, having known nothing about Jesse James. Very informative about how historically accurate the book, and the film by extension, turned out to be.

he saw something in the paper that day about one of his ex-gang mates apparently admitting to a murder they did

He knew that the Fords had already read that paper and found it incredibly suspicious that they wouldnt tell him

He was also very paranoid leading up to this and its reported he may have killed a member of his own gang out of false suspicions. Seems like if he knew Robert was being suspicious, and he was already very paranoid. He wouldn't make it a point to lay his revolver down and turn his back to him.

It seemed that everything about Ford was on spot and correct, while he basically flat out lies about Jesse.

He states at one point that Jesse never regretted killing anyone, but he is clearly very fucked up about his life and basically committed suicide because of it.

The shooting scene(s) in the film were pathetic, in a good way. There is nothing noble or epic or cool about them. Just loud noises and bad aim.

I loved that they didn't glorify violence. It's just blunt and ugly.

Seriously though, guys back then were fucking terrible shots. Remember Dead Eye Doc Holiday from Tombstone played by Val Kilmer as a fucking perfect shot? Well, the real guy would spend over fucking 30 rounds hitting a guy a few yards away. People couldn't hit shit. You do realize not all of the civil war was guerrilla warfare and that there was quite a few long range field battles? They didn't just run up to each other and miss for 20 minutes from point blank.

Most of these men were Civil War veterans, including the James-Younger gang and Hickock, and they didn't just fight with rifles, handguns were what won the West after all. The Missouri-Kansas theater of the war (which was the part that James and Hickock took part in) was almost wholly guerrilla warfare, with much more importance placed on a man's ability to use a sidearm than a rifle.

Also the Navy colt models that were used by both Hickock and James were extremely precise.

the original cut was much longer

warner made them cut it and actually wanted to cut it further, to 90 minutes but in the end agreed to the current version

the director said that the original cut still exists and its basically ready for release if only warner allowed it
