What are some ideas for films that can be made on a shoestring budget?
I want to try and submit something to Tribeca before the deadline on the 25th.

Most filmmakers tend to skew towards horror on their first film (i.e; Sam Raimi), so try something like that. Trap a bunch of kids in an enclosed space, and unleash hell on 'em.

Also, I've kinda wanted to see more horror comedies come out of independent filmmakers a la Edgar Wright, so perhaps you could try that.

Doesn't need to be a parody. Some of the best examples of the horror comedy genre are Housebound and What We Do In The Shadows, which are largely completely original.

And I don't have knowledge of the tropes. Again, I don't watch horror.
The only horror movies I like are Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, and Evil Dead (2013).
