I stopped halfway through season 1 because it wasn't measuring up to comparable shows I saw recently like Top of the Lake, Luther, The Fall

Definitely. S1 really solid. S2 stronger in some ways and weaker in others but also very worth watching. It provides a near symmetric (with respect to screen time) portrayal of a serial killer and cop who is hunting him.

Just recently started watching it because i love watching these types of detective movies/shows.

They could have wrapped the entire case in 3 episodes tops if it wasn't fucking around with the dumbest red herrings out there. But they had to drag that shit on for two goddamned seasons.
