I know two people who have had throat cancer, both survived. They both said that if they could go back, they'd consider dying instead because the treatment is so horrible.

Essentially they blast your throat with radiation. This also destroys your salivary glands, so you're unable to produce saliva. They both lost tons of weight and now can only eat foods that are somewhat wet.
