I read The Colour Out of Space yesterday and was pretty spooked out of my mind.
I heard a studio is trying adapt it. Could it work?
Could any other stories of his be adapted?

I don't think they could really do The Colour Out of Space justice in film. The way I read it, the colour was something that we can't even truly begin to understand the appearance of, so no film or art could provide proper imagery for it.

let me guess, you think 'eldritch horrors" are just things with tentacles? granted colour out of space is probably the worst one to adapt but come on, don't be one of those faux lovecraft fans.

Colour Out of Space is my favorite HP story.
There's a German film adaptation Die Farbe.

Just always show it off screen. Like the contents of the suit case in Pulp Fiction. That's how I would do it, and then just add a shine effect on characters who see it.

Lovecraft's entire shtick is indescribable fear of the unknown. Things so terrifying and weird that they drive main characters mad. But if you show it in actual film, we will just see its a prop/cgi monster and be like "wow thats supposed to drive us mad?"

Its just a storytelling style that works better in writing than in visual mediums.

But a lot of the times the stories only hint of the fear, and that could be done in the movies. But I agree, most things involving actual monsters wouldn't work.

I recently read The creature on the doorstep and I found it pretty spooky. That one could be adapted. Rats in the walls as well and probably even Pickmans model (spooked me as well), even though the ghouls maybe wouldn't appear as creepy.

To answer OP; the story was creepy, but probably couldn't be adapted unless you chose a known color, and that would ruin the story.
