I have no problem with minorities being cast in white roles where it's not a central part of their character and the actor or actress is the best one for the role. For instance, Heimdall in Thor. I had no problem with idris Elba playing a Norse god because he played the role very well and he's a god so it doesn't really matter what color he is. However, LOTR is all about lineage and clans and kingdoms. The idea that they would be homogenous is not far fetched. Throwing in some Black or Asian extras wouldn't have hurt the movie though.

They were just really well made movies with good actors and a director that gave a fuck at the time. The Hobbit was one big paycheck for Jackson considering how much shit the whole project had been through even before he took over for Del Taco.
