I accidentally downloaded a YIFY once, was just looking at ratio and filesize, wasn't careful enough. There's nothing quite like the feeling of disgust that comes from loading up a movie which you think is going to be 1080p but which turns out to be YIFY 1080p. I just.... I can't talk about it any more.

Kinda disappointed. I just watch movies on my laptop (pleb af I know), so the poor quality isn't quite as noticeable. Besides, when considering all the other things about a film (plot, tone, characters, acting, dialogue, cinematography, music etc etc), video quality doesn't matter as much as people say it does. A good film is a good film regardless, and a shit film isn't made better by watching it in higher definition.

It's not better than 480p, idiot, it's better to upscale a good 480p video than to clumsily encode 1080p on 350MB, the codec matters but it's irrelevant at those sizes.

I rememer how Flight with Denzel W was really beutiful with clear and sharp video and solid sound while others were pig disguting pixelated mess with audio that you can't hear during conversations, but wake up the whole neighborhood during action scenes

What's the threshold where larger file sizes stops translating into quality for movie rips? I usually feel like files with a bitrate between 10000/13000 kbps provide an almost perfect copy of the blu-ray when I watch them on my 22 inches screen.

This. Looking just at the resolution is pointless. Some new codecs are good, but not that good. The only 1080p movies that I have seen that look good on so great bitrates are the animated ones. In any other case watching a 1080p movie with a bitrate lower than 6000 seems like a waste, better get some good looking 720p or something.

A 4-8 GB DVD remux, properly encoded into 720p with 5.1 audio is a much better option than some 1080p 1GB garbage file.

I always hated YIFY, but it worked when you looked for a good download. Still, I did a search for others before him, and only about 5% of my downloads went to him... I have long wanted to get access to PTP or something for good downloads. It's amazing how worthless TPB has gotten since I first started using in, what.... '03? Maybe not quite that early. And it's not just the audio quality. I don't know what kind of retarded filter that audio goes through, put the discrepancies in audio levels in yify rips are atrocious. At some points the movie will be unintelligibly quiet, then some sound effects will almost blow up your speakers/headphones, forcing you to keep your hand on that volume dial.
