Imagine instead of being a guy in a suit or a guy remotely controlling a prop robot or whatever, 3po and r2d2 were just these two old guys in normal old guy clothes who follow the main characters around and talk with raspy voices and get into all the same shenanigans that the droids normally do (but they’re still referred to as “3po” and “r2”)
