Symphogear threads being on /a/, /m/, and /u/ is a great example of 4chan's sliding scale of quality vs. traffic. /a/ threads get the most traffic and often a bunch of translating gets done there simply because the most people pass through there. The flipside of that is that you get a lot of shitposting and people generally being colossal asswipes. /u/ is on the other end. This thread has been around for over a week, but has been pretty good quality discussion and calm, agreeable posting. /m/ falls between the two, so it's generally the preferable one to just lurk.

Actually most translation seems to be done in the /m/ thread. Only very recently is stuff being done in the /a/ thread. Before the moon-kuns we have would only ever really translate in /m/, and you could post something and ask for a translation and there was a good chance it would get done. I saw a lot of people asking for the same in the /a/ thread and got no response.

Symphogear is set in Tokyo, in Shibuya Maria and Tsubasa can get semi-hitched as partners. Otherwise in Japan it usually is/was done via adopting your partner into your family. Official oversees marriage is an option due to Maria being American, if you marry a westerner that is indeed legally accepted, futhermore there are is actually a few buddhist shrines offering traditional japanese marriages to same-sexcouples in Japan.

I totally missed that Symphogear takes place in Tokyo, where I wrote it as legal for the semi-marriage. According to the research I did though, overseas marriages are legal for Japanese natives, but you still don't count as married while in Japan. So if they married in the UK, when they come back to Japan they're just two girls.

I think that's the case only if both spouses are Japanese citizens. If at least one of them is not, the marriage is fully recognized.
