nVidia doesn't butcher their older cards by drivers, see 6 month tests, FPS sometimes drops, sometimes raises up.
They kill them with something old cards can't do physically. Works as an extra failure from people trying to mess with their drivers. 780Ti is closer to 980 in games without excessive Gameworks implementation.
