Since Link is an asexual, functional mute whose character has never been developed beyond "courageous hero what hits stuff with swords and lights torches", it wouldn't be jarring to swap out with a female version.
Now, if they felt compelled to suddenly give link a big fancy backstory, character, and personality that overly hyped the girl-ness of this gender swap it would be some bullshit.
But, as far as I'm concerned, a self-insert blank slate character can be male or female. The only thing that would really even change your immersion would be that femlink would be making sexy grunts while hopping around and shit. The only reason female characters catch such shit in games is because they're always STRONG WOMEN LADY POWER stereotypes in order to show the mass market that THIS developer totally gets modern women. Games needs more blank slate women.
