You literally tried to go into the game in the wrong order. You started by trying to be a douche, but didn't even go the full nine yards because you didn't fight sans.
Of course you won't feel anything killing a bunch of characters you have given no time to relate too.
Part of the game is picking on the players completionist tendencies, by fleshing out the characters in the pacifist run, and then having you kill them in the genocide run.
Even on subsequent runs it will call you on your shit if you have done a genocide before.
