Not the first time the rule is broken.

The whole thing is that having family makes it easier to have cause to turn to the dark side and it went against the whole "order first" mentality the Jedi promoted.

One of the mistakes learned with Anakin was that by making it taboo, they facilitated the fall (Anakin could have more openly discussed his issues with the order and likely avoided the Palpsbait if talking about it didn't mean the boot from the order)
