/v/ how do I git gud at FPS? I can't help but spray and pray so my shots always end up every around but rarely on the person I'm shooting at.

Well first of all make sure your sensitivity isn't set too high, this right off the bat will help you aim a bit more accurately. After that, try your hardest to keep your crosshair on the target when you're shooting it.

lot of the modern fps aren't going to teach you well because of rng in spraying and shit. go back to the roots and play some UT and Quake. If you miss in those games it is 100% your fault there's no question of whether a game jewed you with spread patterns.

No, not really. Turn up your sensitivity and count how many seconds it takes for you to actually hit your target even once. I played with 10.5 sensitivity in Valve games for a very long time and only turned it down to 6 this year, and I ended up hitting my targets a lot more often.

Lower sens is the opposite of noob shit, depending on the game. Quake, you're gonna want some twitchy shit. CS? Lower the better until you get comfortable. Helps with picking people off from long distances.

If you're playing CS, it's hard getting a good feel for how the weapons work just by playing.

If you're playing any other game, you just keep playing. Action Quake 2 used to be the best aim training game but I'm 99.9% sure it's dead now.

It's about automation, people are born unskilled and burn patterns into their brains through repetition.
After playing a single game (or a kind of games) the controls disappear and only your will and stuff happening on the screen exist, the though proces, aiming, reaction, all that happens without you thinking about it. you are "in the zone".
That is what you're looking for and you'll get there, but there is only one road, one way and it's repetition, repetition, repetition.

It's like weight training. Build up to it. Sure, you'll be at a disadvantage against players who are better at aiming, but you already were. With lowered sensitivity you can develop good aiming practices to take with you into higher sensitivities

You have it backwards. Most pro Quake players have at most 20cm/360 sensitivity, with a mean probably over 30cm/360.

The only FPS I've played since goldeneye is Fallout 3 (I know its not really an FPS, its a WRPG, but the combat with guns is like FPS). And I just totally suck at it. Is it the game, or me? I feel like I can hardly aim or hit enemies at all.

What platform?
Your weapon skill affects your accuracy to a severe degree.
The gunplay in modern Fallout is CRAP especially 3 since the reticle is a rough approximation of where the centre of origin is pointing.
Play NV, the gunplay is still crap, but at least you can look down the sights and is a better game overall. Just saiyan.

If you know you're doing it, cut it out. Either stop trying to win fights and start getting to learn when to click the gun button for optimal results, or at least do a one on one off rhythm to keep your shit from completely getting away

You'll want to under the game and understand the limits of your hands dexterity.

Follow an object around while strafing, what you're looking for is your aim to be steady and not shaky.
