I've done so in every Souls game so far. Not really on purpose but just because I prefer that style of playing.

I don't summon people in my first playthrough but I do help people in order to recon bosses if I've just gone through a tough area that I really don't want to do over.

As long as you're not relying on summons and looking shit up left and right, play however. Although truthfully sword and shield is the way to go for the first time, since it stops you from cheesing.

Also efficiency. Playing this way forces you to deal with enemies up close - learning how their attacks and how their AI reacts to stuff. This makes future playthroughs easier.
Just get that shit out of the way so you can faceroll through areas later.

I just found most bosses of DS2 boring, with the same kind of cheap moves, combo breakers, this kind of thing.
I think it was harder than DkS 1 tbh, I played this game at release on 360, no guides or anything, and I didnt find O&S that hard at the time, I dont remember to struggle against them, so yeah dont want to sound cocky either but I needed those summons most of the time for DkS2.

I think I disagree about summoning NPCs. I think that ACTUAL SPOILERS FOR DARK SOULS 1 [spoilers]Solaire's death[/spoilers] would have been a whole lot less impactful if I hadn't summoned him a few times beforehand. I definitely agree about everything else though. I am so glad GFWL shit the bed for me, since I probably would've summoned out the ass if I could actually log into my account.

The only spell caster i play in souls games are pure casters. I only put points into int, faith and attunment. I find it weird for mages to have lots of health, endurance and skilled in melee combat with the ability to blow things up at a distance. I prefer glass cannons with tons of magical options.

I didn't google everything when I played Dark Souls when I played it for the first time, so I didn't actually know you could summon other people until after I killed Four Kings. I discovered most of the game myself, that's probably why I have a bit of reverence for it since I played it when I was a lot younger for the first time.

I honestly never felt this. The closest I got to feel it was when I beat Fume Knight at NG+7. Even then... for the bosses that took me more tries than average, I didn't feel satisfaction, I just thought about how they were more bullshit than the rest.

Boss fights have gotten extremely methodical after the years, you're just going through the motions in BB. I'm actually yearning for some more gimmicky DeS fights to change it up a little.

Once you beat [insert casual filter boss here] all other bosses just feel like nothing, at least to me, of course nothing is going to reach that level of satisfaction again.
