I'm making a hacking sim

What are some essentials it needs to have?
>bouncing links through multiple computers/proxies
>text commands
>upgradeable hardware
>reading peoples emails

what else though?

dank, hadn't thought of that. One side of the game is avoiding shit like cryptolocker, so I guess if you master the mechanics and can hack the cryptolocker command and control server you can get a copy of it to use yourself.

Also, memory management, where you can increase/decrease the amount of memory for cracking tools

Also, for the grid with connections, have a filter and or favorites, because by the end of the game, it's hard to find the server you need because there are a lot nearby

Yeah, Uplink and Hacknet both suffered from this, I have SSH but theres no graphical overlay for it. I think there will be some graphics with packets bouncing between nodes rather than lines you have to visually trace.

LOTS of variables and customization. If your performance is dependable on a myriads of variables to take in count (Like Os, Machine, Keyboard, IPS, Monitor, House) It's funnier. It should be logical ( Using a VPN to hack the pentagon... Good luck!) and be hack. We should be able to modify our characters
