Which game is the best to start? i heard they are pretty hard.

Nocturne is all you need to play. Don't play hard mode, even though the challenge is often more fun you will have many entirely luck-based wipes, which can even include the literal very first combat in the game. The save loading and retreading takes a while and it's just off-putting.

The other non-Persona SMT games tend to be decent. Persona 3 and 4 are horrendously bad.

Why not start with Purse Owner?
It's like literally going to school to learn how to play SMT, in a way.

If you're totally adamant about it, start with IV, Strange Journey, or Nocturne, they're all great entry points.

It has the most streamlined game play in the series with few minor exception (RNG wrecking your shit in the beginning. Smirking being retarded in some cases)
Also fusion is amazing after the previous games.
