>>314796730The appeal of the series is that it's furry Star Wars. That's it in a nutshell. It has intrinsic nostalgia appeal for the people who played the games when they were young, as things involving charismatic anthro characters tend to. Unfortunately the series has gone through a lot of growing pains due to how infrequently games come out, and the fanbase (and Miyamoto, for that matter) has always been at war over whether the series should evolve or stick strictly with what worked int the past.
The new game looks bad because 1) it's being rushed and 2) they are trying to pull way more performance out of the Wii U than it was ever designed to accomodate. 60fps on 2 screens using hardware that's about 8 years out of date. Add to that that Miyamoto went and injected his quirky "innovations" and sense of aesthetics into the game, and you have something that has been getting pretty mixed reactions from fans.
