>>314798776It died due to the same reasons Tremulous, Gloom, NS1 and Nuclear Dawn died. You can add though that it had incredibly poor optimization, at least initially, to further limit its popularity. Sad thing is it was fun to play during some of the periods I flirted with it in it's dev cycle.
You fuckers got everything you deserved and I would post in every one of those stupid "NS2 is on sale today/has a free weekend, play it!" threads that you need to teach players, not be a shit when teaching them, and that literally every other fucking FPS/RTS has died because those golden rules weren't followed. In those same threads there would always be someone saying they didn't know if they should give it a second shot because they got harassed when they hopped in as comm or got told that they didn't belong on a newbie friendly server. Then some genius would hop in and say that they should have just been better, less casual or watched an hour of youtube videos to get a good overview of the game system.
I never stuck around because I knew that the community would never support itself by training new players. They just kept hemorrhaging them, which is a piss poor plan for a FPS/RTS with asymmetrical teams that was in early access. Balance and dev ideas continually fuck balance in these games, and tiny changes make big differences, so expect rough waters during a dev period.
I do not know how they managed to so consistently berate players who were picking up the genre for the first time. Newbie servers were okay for getting my friends into the game as long as I was with them, but they'd all fall off the treadmill as soon as they started playing on their own because they'd just get constant shit talk and the laziest forms of constructive criticism/advice.
