Aeris has always sort of had a crush on Leo, but has never acted on the urge directly. Leo is of course too stupid to pick up on any subtle advances either. Thus, they have never dated and are not siblings.
The reason they live together is because they are a minority among others, having the same hobby, being of the same species, and being relatively close in each other's lives. The lack of interest in video games isexhibited by both of their families. Leo's one and only sister is more interested in reading, and Aeris's brothers are more into sports, being an emo piece of shit, and art (that last one is a bit of a stretch considering it was a toddler drawing on a wall. Thus they are caught in the belief that they are the only friends they can have. When they try to reach out to others (ie. Leo with Dr. Hobo, Aeris with Ternaldo) their inexperience with choosing people shows in those relationships.
My reasoning for Aeris hating Leo is simple. She's just sick of idiots she's met in her life and groups Leo in with them, even though she sees him a bit differently.
