>>3148087857 was really good because it was the first in the series to jump to 3d. It was a huge leap for gaming and they didn't royally fuck it up. My biggest gripe with 7 is that the materia system makes every character homogeneous.
6 is about as good as any jrpg can be. Multiple characters with actually interesting personalities/stories, huge roster with no dead weight, good pacing aside from a couple sections, and the wob/wor. This was the first FF to really spotlight the characters.
I think 6 is the definitive 2d FF.
However, 3d FFs have come a long way since 7. Voice acting is mandatory, animation is getting cleaner and more believable - animators are now trying to showcase emotion
Imo, FFX is closer to what players are looking for in a 3d FF.
12 felt like a single player MMO. Personally, I liked being able to 'code' a gambit for my team, though it made the game very easy.
13 (and spinoffs) have some really nice animation, but their gameplay, characters, pacing, story, cohesion, and postgame are all lacking. Lightning was the only character with any draw for me.
Here's hoping 15 isn't dogshit.
