I'm excited for this game, but mixed on the fact that it seems more like a "M&L game guest starring Paper Mario" rather than a true crossover or a "Paper Mario game guest starring M&L". Mostly because I still haven't played Bowser's Inside Story or Dream Team. Are those two any decent/worth playing? I only played Superstar Saga and Partners in Time years ago but remember liking them.

Also I really hope this game acknowledges aspects of Paper Mario other than fucking Sticker Star. Please have locations/story elements/characterization/SOMETHING from PM64 and TTYD. Hell, I'll even accept a nod to SPM. Just please don't make it Sticker Star only. That was the most disappointing game I've played in years.

They could at least try using some different monsters once in a while. There are hundreds of mario enemies to work with and they gravitate towards the same handful in every single game. I can understand goombas but do we really need shy guy with propeller or buzzy beetles in every single game?

I usually balance my stats but in Dream Team I went full Atk/Bros/Stache. It was neat killing bosses in like 3 turns but getting fucked up if you don't dodge was painful. I'm gonna go balanced this time.

We already knew the story for the previous games before they came out.
In this one, it's just "Paper Bowser and Bowser team up and you must send Paper Bowser back to his world, also both Peaches are kidnapped lol". This, alongside the tiny world map, the NSMB worlds, the lack of any new characters, etc. would clearly imply the story is as straightforward as it seems to be.

Are you really gonna pretend any paper mario had anything close to a complex, in depth story

idk about sticker star but the first three you can easily boil down to 'find the 7 macguffins and defeat the bad guys.' The actual entertaining parts all come from the minor characters you run into along the way that don't really matter

The only one with a plot twist was M&L1, in which nobody expected Peach's voice wasn't actually stolen until the game came out.
M&L2's story is straightforward as fuck and exactly as the previews said.
M&L3's story was less straightforward but was still exactly what the previews said it was.
Why would it be different now?

I literally said in my post that I didn't know if what I said about the other PMs applies to it because It looked shit and I've never cared enough to look it up.

But M&L games don't exactly have the most exciting plotlines either while we're on the topic.

In retrospect BiS's story is kind of all over the place. Bowser's just kind of flung from point A to point B countless times and there's no overall defining theme like SSS beans/PiT Shroobs/DT dreams (it feels like they were shooting for teeth at one point but stopped??)

BIS' story is indeed all over the place. Bowser goes to his castle, gets kicked out, goes back, gets fat, gets out, and then M&L go and collect the Miracle Vaccines to open the door to Peach's Castle and save Peach.

All the enemies and characters inside bowser follow a basic theme pretty closely. The overworld's pretty eclectic though I'll give you that. I imagine it was somewhat of an afterthought

Don't be torn on it. The game staying true to M&L with Paper Mario as a complement is nothing but a plus.
Just like the reverse would have been true.

The M&L games are great. If you haven't played them but like Mario RPG and Paper Mario you should go and play them right away.

I have no problem with the Mario and Luigi games, but it really didn't need a crossover with Paper Mario. What we really should be getting right now is a full-fledged Paper Mario RPG on Wii U, and a Mario and Luigi game along the lines of pic related.
