Seriously, I'm entirely against separating oneself from your neighbors. Only way that can happy today is if the larger countries got split into a bunch of smaller ones, which almost certainly would have to be achieved through bloodshed.
Now, that's not to say bloodshed wouldn't be needed to unite the world, but I would much rather prefer that scenario as I believe it's better prepare us for our Exodus into space as a species.
