>>314830392i wouldn't call that a coin toss, though. the term is not fitting for what happens. 'cloning' or copying like you said is better.
and there is no coin toss. you just made up some rules right now, 'over night', 'no recollection'. that is not what happens.
the process of how it works is 100% clear in the game. if you are the original you and you decide to get yourself scanned NOTHING will change for you. there is just another you, a clone walking around after the scan. every time. 100% predictable.
if the clone now came to feel he lost or won a 'coin toss', he missunderstands the situation and what he is - just like simon (the whole point of the story btw). the clone didn't fucking EXIST just a minute. you weren't even there. there is no chance you might end up as the original.
as a clone either you're there or there was no cloning / scan and you don't exist at all. since you're a copy you might feel it unfair that you're basically redundant without a place in the world, which it is but still. you're a copy.
it's the same the other way around, a clone of your mind in a younger body who carries on your legacy doesn't mean shit to you as a individual, it does not grant you immortality. you're still gonna fucking die.
as simon spefically says at the omicron scan 'i thought you were gonna tranfer me, like a brain transplant.' and catherine says 'it wouldn't work that way.' it's a copy, not a cut and paste.
