Hey /v/, I've been thinking, what do you think is the best monitor for playing games? Do you guys think that 144hz and 1440p/4k is worth it or necessary? This obviously depends on your right but assuming we're talking about a mid-high to high end rig do you believe all that extra shit is worth it? Or is it a gimmick?

There is no such thing as a 144hz 4k monitor. And no it's not worth the price unless you have one of the highest end video cards that can do 144hz in the first place. And that's nothing you expect for a mid end rig.

I don't know how good it is for games yet, nothing worth playing, but it's damn great for desktop. I have mg279q, it's pretty good.

I'm perfectly fine with 1080p and 60fps. It's easy to achieve, easier to maintain high performance, and it stresses the system less too.

I am more concerned about the screen's response time. Anything above 5ms is crap, and after 6 years of playing on 2ms 1200p BenQ, I'm not going to take anything less.

Depends on your hardware. If you can only handle 1440p or 144hz, go with higher refresh if you play high motion games/shooters. 4k right now is not worth it.

Have you ever tried 1440p screen? I'm legally blind and it made difference even for me.

What is and isn't worth depends entirely on your budget. If you can afford to SLI 980 Ti's then go for, it's a noticeable upgrade. If not, then stick with 2k and 60 FPS.

Personally, I was more than ready to make rhe jump to 144hz over the standard 60. However I can only go so far as to warrant 1440p, and no further simply because of personal hardware budget constraints.
