Should I get a Wii or a Gamecube? I want to play games on the GC I missed out on, plus some other games I'm nostalgic for (Tony Hawk's Underground). The wii is more expensive (still cheap) but can play both wii and GC games, plus I could try working homebrew on it so I can play pirated games. Will the Wii be a good choice just to use for playing ISOs of Wii and GC games? Or is the process complicated and/or inconvenient?

just get the wii. the softmod process is super easy and fairly fuckin' awesome. attach a hard drive or jump drive and you can just boot the wii library all day. run some netflix and movies and music off the hard drive as well.

Definitely get the wii. You'll need an external hard drive and an SD card too. It's really easy to mod, and the extra money you spend will be made up for hundredfold by all the free games. You can even play n64 and SNES games with emulators.

Admittedly, I still buy Wii and Gamecube games for cheap, but pirating them helps me save and afford them.

It can take a lot of effort to get working right but a hacked wii can play gamecube games well too

The only uses a real gamecube has anymore is the GBA player and Ethernet adapter, which have no equivalents on Wii that work on the gamecube

Just get a Wii, but check the model number to make sure it's a model that has gamecube hardware. Even Wii that are BC might use the shitty software emulation

get a wiimote and a "wireless wii sensor bar" (which works with batteries to send IR signal), a GC WiiU controller adapter, and a GC controller, and emulate, GC/Wii games in 1080 look better than PS4/Xbone games thanks to dat art direction

What? Wii CPU+GPU built on the same hardware architecture as gamecube and that is why it runs gc games natively, its not your Pee Ess 3. The only thing that differs in "late" Wiis is lack of controller or memcard ports. It is the exactly same board just without those ports soldered, you can even solder back it yourself if you have the guts and right parts.

After modding it look to Nintendont as it more reliable and allows you to play games off an SD if you don't have a USB.

You mean the ones that take 6-8 fucking batteries? Plus batteries needed for the wiimote. Why would anyone want that over the wired one? That's fucking insane.

Get the Wii because you can hook up component cables and have progressive scan GameCube games, where if you wanted to do that with a GameCube you'd have to get the right model then she'll out like $100 for the cable

One thing to note is that the Wii's component output is worse than the GC's. GameCube component cables are expensive af though.

Also do you have a Wii U cuz there's a way to play GameCube games on that.

afaik, the text printed on the front of the wii is a good indicator of gc compatibility.
avoid the wii that has text intended for horizontal orientation.

that being said, even the horizontal units can run gc games with the use of 'nintendont' and a usb controller, which is pretty good for a worst case scenario

Gamecube is only worth it if you want to make use of the GameBoy Player or pick up the expensive and rare Component cables as they offer a slightly better picture than the Wii's component video. Otherwise, just get a Wii, they're pretty easy to mod and you get full CGN backwards compatibility depending on the model you get.

Get the Wii. Way too easy to softmod, and it'll do a lot more than it usually could, including playing DVDs.

Also a tip, if you plan to put the sensor bar on your TV, there are two white stickers on the bottom of the bar that cover the adhesives. Take those off and your bar will never fall off. I discovered this a few months ago.

i've had a black GC and player and recently i've been thinking of getting rid of it. why bother when my wii can do all the GB stuff for free. im just gonna hold on to all my GC controllers and games.
