Have you seen the original Kid Icarus script?

Literally "PITTO-SAN IT'S NOT THAT I LIKE YOU OR ANYTHING BAKA".

The localisation makes the characters much more likable and less anime-like.

The same thing happened with Xenoblade Chronicles. Ever wonder why Reyn isn't at all popular in Japan? Because the localisation made him into a total bro.

For Kid Icarus, Sakurai personally requested them to completely change the script since the Japanese script relied heavily on puns that only work in Japanese. Also the localised version was far superior.

The only reason this is even an issue here is the fact that some of the changes made in these games are for the worse. You're not mad about 'censorship' or whatever the fuck you're saying you care about, you just think you've been given the inferior script and are too stupid to properly phrase your concerns or actually fucking do something about it

The work of localization is to make things make sense in english. Sakurai gave them the go to greatly change the script cause the game has a ton of jokes only japanese and incredibly secluded weeabos would get.

Hades is a total bore-fest in Japan, hence why they didn't even bothered to care for him in smash bros. Meanwhile, the western version made him likable and full of personality.

I can understand people are getting mad at censorship, but goddamn when a GOOD job comes around you can't just act like that just cause you can't fap to your potato.

Elma is way better anyways, and censorship or not, that ass stays with every armor.

Henry was made less dark and more "funny". Tharja's summer scramble image was censored, though Nowi still talks about her breasts.

Gregor was turned into le fahnny Russian accent man, which is an improvement hilariously enough.

I think that's it. Everything else is somewhat negligible.

So what exactly was changed in the KI scripts? Are there comparisons anywhere? I'm not finding anything online but I'd love to see a subbed jap version to compare to the english version we got just to see what changed.

Even then, most of the characters in Uprising were shit in the Japanese version aside from Pit, Pitto and maybe Medusa.

Palutena and Viridi were so generic it hurt and shades of as shit overall in that game because of it. It's why no one wants his ass in Smash Bros because he wouldn't be himself in the game because how he was in the Japan version you'll get both regions pissed if you screw something up.

Only thing that was truly fucked in FEA was Tharaja's ass being censored for no reason but outside of that nothing of note wasn't really changed aside from the Silent Mode where MU speaks in ellipses and all Treehouse did was add another voice

I agree. Now if they had done something like maybe completely changed some gameplay elements, then I might be annoyed.

Fire Emblem 9 was an example one of the few games that got butchered in the western release since they completely removed the highest difficulty from the original Japanese version.

I mean yeah it's bullshit that anything gameplay related was removed, especially an entire difficulty mode, but I'd hardly call that butchering either. You want butchering, look at Tales of Hearts R's localization. Everything about it screams amateur, from the changing of certain names but not others to completely ruining the tone in nearly every single scene (in a story-heavy game) thanks to overly verbose and poorly fitting dialogue

They also changed things for the better though. Units that didn't have crit bonus in the JP version got one in the US one (Berserkers, Swordmasters, Snpers).
Skills like Renewal are learnable by all instead of just Elincia/Ena (who already have it).
There's a few other changes I'm forgetting.

The Japanese had three difficulties.

Normal Hard and Manaic

The western release changed this to:

Easy Normal and Hard.

The easy mode in the western release completely replaced the Maniac mode from the Japanese version.
