It's getting released early next year. They're still working on it. There's a decent collection of enthusiasts creating content for the Dev kits they sent out.

Stuff happening, it's just all in the bakground until the thing is released and we have something new to talk about.

shits fucking cash, used it with touch controllers, blows the vive out of the water, and dont listen to shills telling you you cant walk around with it either, thats totally bullshit i found out
the room they had me in was easily 3mx3m and i could walk all around the edge with ease, and that was with the 2 cameras sitting next to eachother on a table
i dont think they are actually normal cameras they kept calling them sensors and they can see WAY too well to be simple cameras

I love the idea that he wanted Minecraft for VR so bad, he was willing to work for Microsoft for FREE, with all the code belong to Microsoft, in order to get the Minecraft VR-ready.

I wouldn't say it blows Vive out of the water, but Vive has some serious drawbacks when it comes to consumer usability. And not the least of those, is there is no way is going to be priced low. I would be shocked if it's less than $600.

Undoubtedly. The only reason VR is starting with gaming is because that's where the 3D engines and the people who create 3D content are.

And also because it won't be cheap, and gamers are the first group willing to pay to get in on it.

Playstation VR would probably be the cheapest option though, especially if you already got a PS4.

Not quite true. Many businesses would pay for it, but they don't quite have people for the expertise. There is so much more benefit and actually physically showing people something in the proper scale and area for architects. Marketing is a lot more effective. Being able to prototype designs reducing 3D printing needs. Now that you got the price of these at less than a projector you may see a lot move VR usage in business. VR indie devs may be able to hold day jobs that actually improve their skills in making games.

That's where Hololens is going. But that isn't what Oculus or Vive is aiming at. They are targeting consumers.

That was my point. VR going first to gamers isn't really about price, but where the 3D content makers are.

The professional market had been around for ages. In fact there was a company who was buying up all the DK2s it can get its hands on, even paying outrageous Ebay prices, because the overpriced DK2 was still cheaper than the standard hardware they were planning to buy.

As Carmack said, once the CV1 comes out they are going to MURDER the overpriced professional VR industry. They will end up killing all the companies out there that had been selling VR kits at tens of thousands of dollars. But that is just a side effect and they are expecting evential wide spread adoption. That's what Facebook wants.
