It's not a competitive game by nature, but as you roll your size increases so in a sense you can make it competitive simply by seeing who can get the biggest katamari.

The only Katamari I've played was the PS3 one and it was really, really fun. Even nabbed the plat for it. I've read that the game was mostly comprised of levels and music from previous Katamari's, is this true? Can't see any reason to go back and try them if so.

I can't say anything about it for sure. I know that the original creator only worked on the first two games, so it's possible the later games lacked some of the charm, but Beautiful Katamari didn't have him on it and it was an enjoyable game. I think the developers continued to do a good job without him, even though they didn't really add or change much over time (which is the reason he left, he didn't like stagnation).

But yeah I think KF had remixes of some of the previous levels. If you decide to go back and play any the first two are really good.
