Negative. Every PC gamer should fucking hate this tool because he goes out of his way to make sure developers never bring games to the PC. He shit on Tecmo Koei for bringing him games that he'd otherwise never be able to play because it was at 144 FPS 4K resolution to validate the expense he made on his insane PC despite the fact it most likely wasn't economical to completely change the game code to meet those standards.

Why are you arguing with yourself? I never said that.

I will say that I don't watch that much of him either, but going by the two-three I've skimmed through he does go into great depth explaining the mechanics of the games he showcases, a fuckin shitload of time showing how much control the in-game options affords the player (goddamn does he do this), and who the game appeals to. There's not really much opinion given since he's got such a raging hard-on for being "objective" though that could have changed and I don't know it. I saw in one of the videos that he was playing with the developers of Killing Floor 2 and probing them about the game. I'm not sure if he does that often.

I wouldn't say that, not beyond the options menu which he covers pretty well. If you watch a full "WTF is" video without skimming, he tends to ramble on and repeat himself excessively while usually pointing out only the most superficial stuff that he can think of right then. The whole point of his chosen format is that it's not "full reviews" but rather blind "first impressions" videos. Probably the best example of the failings of this format is his Homeworld Remastered video; he talks about the game for 30 minutes without realizing that there's anything wrong with the core mechanics - except for the very end where he wonders why his fighters refuse to kamikaze into a destroyer.

There's no real benefit to his format other than that he's able to get out more videos quickly rather than if he took the time to edit them. I wouldn't recommend bothering with his videos, unless you're just looking for footage of the game or specifically want to know about the options menu and framerate.

In terms of trying to milk his personality as funny, likeable, charismatic he fails pretty bad.

It also turns out that he is actually pretty bad at video games to begin with. Not that reviewers actually have to be good at video games, it just seems wierd since he does notnhing but play the damn things.

Shitposting aside, let's have a look at TB's contributions/effects:

- Co-owns a SC2 team and has done lots of casting commentary for starcraft tournaments.
- Attracted several tens of thousands of players to LoL and had an in-game item named after him.

- Has developed a youtube channel with over 2 million subs. With this channel he has:

- made hundreds of first impression videos, often for lesser-known games, helping folks to decide whether to buy or not
- informed people about the SOPA clusterfuck a few years ago, helping to fuel the backlash against it
- had a Garry's Incident video that was taken down for copyright improvement. His reply video got over 3 million views, the studio apologised and withdrew their complaint and the issue of copyright infringement claims to censor criticism was highlighted to the community
- been scathing of pre-order culture in gaming. If even a few no longer pre-order as a result of watching his content he has done a service to the community and culture of video games.
- spoken about integrity for youtubers and vidya journalists, and seems to have been very thorough in disclosing conflicts of interests.
- the content he reviews is given much more exposure than it would otherwise, which makes a big difference to sales for smaller games.

We might quibble over the extent of the impact of these things, but I hope that we can agree that he has had at least a very little impact on the community and that the impact has been generally positive.
