But when they began development, they realized their hearts weren't really in it. They were doing it more for brand recognition than because they actually felt like it was gonna be a good idea.
So they dropped it.
It admittingly sucks that this means its probably the end of the franchise, but Id rather them stop while they are (mostly) ahead than make uninspired sequels.
