There's more to running a cloud service than just having hardware. Sony won't have the real estate nor resources to serve even close to 20m people let alone 100m+ potential users. They simply can't touch Microsoft. They don't have the infrastructure. They don't even have their own servers for PSN. That's all outsources from Rack space.
