There is nothing backwards about the age of consent in Japan.

You're too used to western culture, so let me put it in words you can understand:

Japanese culture forces you to become an adult early in life. You know how in America you turn 18 years old then your parents can kick you out and you're on your own? That happens in Japan at 13. School is brutal and children are growing up forced to get a job as early as 10. They're practically adults before they even turn 14.

Boycott this shit, everyone. It's hard but do it. Censorship is never not disgusting. Everyone would have the option to just avoid this costume. Now it's locked away from us and Nintendo makes decisions over OUR heads and over the idea of the DIRECTOR and ARTISTS that were working on this game.

Here's the thing about censorship. If an artist truly believes in the value of what they're creating, they WILL fight against censorship. It has happened in every industry, including the vidya industry.

However, if your goal is just to make a sexy costume for people to fap to, then there's not much value to protect there. And that's all it is for most of these games, just sexy costumes for otaku to fap to. There's no artistic or thematic meaning, there's no freedom of expression being taken away because nothing is being expressed.

You can talk all day about principals but that's just how it is with international releases, and once again it covers all mediums. I don't see any of you guys being enraged at Japanese porn being censored to the point where you're starting petitions and rallying around some noble cause to get some lady's hairy vagine unpixellated, but suddenly when it's vidya it's super important.

There's a cultural war brewing. There's people that consider the japanese games fanservice problematic and advocate censorship. These are the same people that think sexuality on games is bad and that there needs to be more "positive depictions" of women, minorities, etc.

Theres stupid censorship, and then theres sensible censorship. This is sensible.

The girl portrayed has no reason to be in a bikini other then sex appeal, the shorts and top they changed her too are far more interesting, and more suitable for a girl her age.

Keep in mind, this is a T rated game, not an M one. Theres no need for half naked women.

Besides, you'd only see this if you used the "oil" armors, and nobody but disguisting perverts do that anyways. Not when cool armor designs exist, and have much ebtter defense and function.

You have to look at this from the mindset of Japan

everybody in Japan grew up with the age of consent being 13, you start getting an adult mindset shortly after you turn 10. You should know how fucking hard school is in Japan, it's fucking brutal, and hypercritical to your success. You can't even immigrate to Japan from America without a fucking bachelor's degree, for starters.

So in a culture where it's legal and okay to have sex at 13 years old, no, there is nothing cringy about this 13 year old wearing a bikini. It's her choice and she's free to do it.

I can see why Nintendo of America is censoring it for regions where the age of consent is not 13, however.

Violence in video games stems from conflict. You can censor as much as you like, but you can neevr remove conflict from any kind of story. its an integral part.

If games get less bloody and more comical, I'm fine with that, Comic mischief is more fun anyways.

As for sexualization, theres really no need in video games, people got off on sprites in the 90s, they can easily do it on a normally clothed character or box art. And thats not going to stop artists from drawing porn of it anyways, so whats the big deal?

OK, listen. First, censorship is never not disgusting. Everyone would have the option to just avoid this costume. Cut content is cut content anyway and censorship is something absolutely disgusting and pointless in new media Age. Everyone knows what she can wear in the Japanese version, everyone has seen it. My dad said he'd rather I see nudity than violence in any circumstance. Exposure to violent games has a direct effect on the development of children. Characters without any armor on looking like they have no armor on doesn't seem inherently sexual.

So the localizers were assuming immediately that Nintendo gamers would view her being naked as a sexual thing even though it's fine for real life 8 year olds to run around in bikinis

There are so many layers to shit like this and the further down you go, the dumber it really gets. At no point does NoA have faith that the player can interpret the game in a wholesome manner. That seems like a real flaw in their rationalization.

Some people can see a 13 year old girl in a bikini without instantly popping a diamond boner and jacking off like a fucking degenerate. But NoA disagrees.

The hypocrisy of Zero Suit Samus being perfectly fine replacement for a sexy bikini Fatal Frame is just... astounding.

Months ago they were still swearing that nothing would be changed, then they were proven false by the first direct changing names for no reason, then they started to say that nothing setting-related would be changed and they were proven false again by the new names of the unions and continents and finally they said times and times again that nothing would be censored even after the confirmation that both NoA and 8-4 were working on it and it ends up with that thread.

I really dodged a bullet by delaying my purchase of a Wii U until I was sure that their retarded localization would be only some slight name changes. Looks like the nintendofags only have some kind of fuck huge Stockholm syndrome.

But still, congrats on NoA on completely missing the goal that that game had in Nintendo's game library: bringing audiences that usually wouldn't buy a Nintendo console on Wii U, like they did with Bayonetta 2. No wonder why Iwata wanted to take control of NoA to fix their shit.

Just looking at the current popular games and anime and comparing them to the same things the 70s-90s, there appears to be more. Yeah there's always been fanservice in those mediums in Japan, they used to even be able to show full nudity in kids stuff a few decades ago, but even though that's no longer possible it most certainly feels like fanservice is at an all time high.

Yeah, I hear ya. I was so excited during the late 90s and early 2000s, video games were evolving and maturing as a medium. They could have become huge, something truly wonderful. But greed and casuals, as they always do, ruined everything.
