I think at one point Kojima was going to have multiple branches of Metal Gear, you know like a Metal Gear Liquid, and Metal Gear Wolf, that had different settings and plots, but it was canned somewhere
anyway, the point is that metal gear solid 4 takes place before metal gear, and metal gear solid 1 takes place after metal gear 2 solid snake
its convulted as fuck, but the two "series" are the same.
