The best way. Make the game, and then add expansion packs, more content, and other stuff after the players have the game.

It's the way other studios do it. No other studio I can think of decided to bloat their dev cycle up with dozens of features and splerge it out in one go.

Star Trek Online didn't launch with 150 ships, World of Warcraft didn't launch with 5 expansions.

That's really a nice disclaimer there, it's not only a subtle dig at CIG, but it's assuring to backers that the studio isn't clueless.

I finally got around to researching this kikestarter. These guys have been trying to develop and sell their engine for over a decade. This proposed game is literally Planetside in space and it's probably for the purposes of advertising the engine.

It's still Torrent, even if it doesn't connect other peers than CIG's CDN. Because of that, it DoSes the gateway router and kills all other connections while downloading.
CIG also doesn't know how to do delta patching.

I love everything CR says and I'm excited for the game but progress is not matching promises or expectations. Even the multicrew demos have looked incredibly shitty and stripped down. I am expecting years more before the game is halfway decent I don't see how they can sell SQ42 by itself in a few months.

To be honest at this point I'd probably happy enough just being able to tootle around in my Connie in 2.0 for the time being. I've been playing Space Engineers and various other games and largely ignoring actually playing Star Citizen for the most part since I originally pledged. Might just be linked to landing/speed state. Unless they handwave some "increased cooling efficiency" when the wings are open, no reason to have them open at all.

I'm only looking forward to the Sabre once we get bigger maps and proper signature mechanics, really. Its a great looking ship and I'm sure it'll hold its own, but a stealth ship in a game where stealth doesn't really function is a bit of a waste.

I think the square intakes would also look a lot better. I'm assuming modelled in a similar way to an F-15? But I understand if CIG doesn't. Like in that '10ft all stars' video, they're trying to reuse common assets. It does make sense, even from a lore perspective.

There's literally nothing wrong with those thingies. They wouldn't impede gas going into the intake, and if anything they could prevent damage if a space rock was going to go in there but bounced off instead. And they make the silhouette smoother.

ToS and EULA are literally worthless. They get swept away by the law as if they weren't even there.

But it's not as bad as CIG selling $2500 ships, and a hand full $90 modules for each ship as well as 3 variants.

STO is nowhere near as expensive, and Zen can be traded for dilithium, so you don't need to buy anything. And SC will have the same shit anyway, people buying UEC and playing the exchange lottery.

Cryptic regularly gives things away, new ships every year, inventory spaces, free C-store ships, etc. Even dry dock feature to give players more space in their ship roster.

I'm really digging the Aegis vs Anvil design style they have going on.

Aegis ships look like conventional space fighters, while Anvil vessels have these harsh angles and unconventional design features, like the huge tail fin.

I look forward to seeing the company politics and competition between the two. Aegis has a dark history under the Messer era and lost favor with the government which it's trying to restore, while Anvil has a sort of quirky yet hardcore Military Contractor thing going on.

In reality, it's only going to be used to persecute people who are detected to be causing problems.

Personally, I still think LTI was a huge fucking bad idea to offer on anything other than the default fucking ships. LTI doesn't matter on an Aurora or a 300i or a Mustang.

But the promise of LTI on dogfighters like the Hornet and the Gladius, and for uber-expensive pledgeships, was too promising.

Right now the #1 issue CIG have with their engine/game is that you can only have a very finite amount of assets in one place at the same time. Any kind of gameplay that mitigates this is obviously desirable.

The other really important thing to consider is that multiple frigates/capital ships have no possible implementation if all combatants need to see each other at at all time. Even one cap ship or a few large multicrew ships are enough to hit the zone limit. There is only one feasible outcome to this, and it is that capital ship combat will be handled by having them well out of visul range of each other. What are all these long range comms and battle formation/coordination roles supposed to supplement if not this? There's only one one feasible solution to all this.

That doesn't of course solve the problem of retards all warping their large ships into the same place, but it shouldn't be something that happens except by stupidity/subterfuge

Things get balanced pretty severely every patch. Even missiles themselves go wildly from useless of OP every other iteration. There was one patch where it was missile commander and nobody fought with anything else they were so good.

Signature mechanics aren't even fully implemented yet.

Laser-based weapons have gotten increased velocity.

Meaning the former is good for rushing your opponent and ignoring his shields, the latter good for medium ranges and not running out of ammo and having to eject

Its a fixed mount with a larger sized single slot for a gun, of a size equal to the two smaller guns you replaced.

The gun itself is a S4 that can fit to any S4 slot, but the only mounts with a size rating large enough are the Hornet/Cutlass turret.

The rule of "if the size matches, you can mount that turret type" isn't universal though, can't necessarily mount this shit to a retaliator just because the Cutlass and Hornet have mounts for it.

Unless I'm doing something wrong, I accidentally turned on the AR when I was dead and now I can't turn it back off.

However, this means I can look around my ship and evaluate the components on it.
Some things are't filled in, the gladiator turret has no information and cots 0 UEC.

All ships except for service craft and snub fighters come equipped with a Quantum drive, which is used for rapid in-system transportation.

It's $40 thrown down towards the realization of a dream game. You know, the space game you always wanted to play as a kid? The guy who functionally invented the genre as we know it is now trying to make this his magnum opus, and there's some crazy ambition to behold. Localized physics grids for ship interiors, massive game environments for flying around, fully destructible ships that splinter apart on destruction, etc. There's a lot that could go wrong, and you'll need a decent computer to even run it. It's also still unfinished, rough, buggy, and did I mention incomplete?

It won't be out in full form for years to come; Most likely the end of 2016 or 2017. There's no telling when certain features will actually be completed, and we're only hoping the big shared universe demo comes out before the end of 2015. The solo campaign which they promise to be some big epic deal and hired crazy famous actors for won't be out for at least another year.

That said, you've probably wasted $40-$50 on worse things, haven't you? A library of steam titles you never play, A night out with friends, two pizzas ordered and eaten in abject crushing solitude, etc.

The ship combat sim is fully functional for a bunch of ships, and it's a lot of fun once you know what you're doing. Lining up a minigun burst on a Scythe and scoring a perfect cockpit/center mass shot feels great.

Go watch some of their demos and videos, and decide if it interests you or not.

As bone headed as that was I do want to earn an endeavor in universe. It has all the functionality of the Enterprise, ie a science ship, with the Nostromo's utility section undocking thing. It would be really cool to do it up as a exploration platform but it will probably end up being too big and fragile to be effective.

I doubt that CIG will give us the ability to melt VD stuff, at least for now. Doing so would mean that we could buy shit, melt it, and try something else with our own little pool of UEC to play with. Once there is a PU it won't matter since we can either auction VD shit off or sell it to an NPC, but right now they want them shekels.

There is so many mechanics that aren't in the game yet that could feasibly balance the SH, its kind of a non-issue for now. Its not like it even tops leaderboards anyway, the F7C is far more popular.

Bigger emission footprint is definitely one disadvantage the SH has. In terms of maneuverability I don't think it's much of a factor. In pretty much every way its just a straight upgrade, the reason why you'd fly one as opposed to the other is only to do with money. Another upgrade is into the ghost, to make yourself hard to lock onto, but the regular Hornet is the worst one in any analysis.

F7C is pretty much topping the leaderboards pretty consistenty, not the Ghost or F7C-M, but yes.

For now, its a straight upgrade rather than a choice.

The Leaderboards are not at all representive of who the best pilots are, and espessically what the best ships are - by any metric other than "which gets points the fastest", which is meaningless outside of the leaderboards themselves.

The best fighter is still the same one it's been ever since it was introduced, the 350R, except it just doesn't wrack up points anywhere near as fast as a slower ship and has a higher skill ceiling and requirement to fly. The leaderboards are always topped by people with the best point farming techniques.

Patch notes take a lot of time to compile. Devs aren't constantly updating a change log sheet that is in a format for the public to read because some changes they make have to be reverted and some are extremely minor things which are done to get other changes to work, etc...

Keeping an up to date changelog for the public while the game is in alpha/beta stage is not something that is worth the amount of time and resources to do. They do have their own internal trackers which lists the files which have been changed and their version numbers but translating this into patch notes takes a huge amount of time and effort.

It probably won't be as bad as you think. Personally, I'd want a gamemode with one large team of 40 people with a single flagship, say, the Corvette or Idris in which the goal is to fight large waves of various Vanduul ships. Protect your flagship, capture supply outposts, smaller objectives and shit. Of course we'd need a larger map though.

Assuming they are sane and have an internal tracker (they 100% do), that would take minutes to code.

But my point is they seem to just pluck a few changes, minor or otherwise, to mention in the "patch notes" but leave out ones that are more significant. Theres no reason to do it that way.

A R9 380 4GB is more than fine for SC as the game actually scales pretty well for what are now low-end cards all the way into the gtx660ti and 7870 territory. However, prices inevitably are going to come down a little existing high and mid-range cards, and you'll probably be able to score a better deal or have more cash for a new card by late 2016-2017. Things are also going to be a littler clearer regarding hardware and software trends. Currently the Intel Core i5-6600K Processor is probably the best performance/value gaming processor on the market, as it steps into the exact same position the Intel Core i5-4690K Processor held at the same price point but has performance improvements. Any boosts you get going up an extra $120 are just not worth it. Kabylake, Intel's 14nm processors are set to launch in 2016, so you might get a benefit from waiting a bit. Might being the key word. Intel's having a bitch of a time shrinking processors down to 10nm and as a result CannonLake processors have been pushed back all the way to mid 2017.

You're going to need minimum 8 GB, but preferably 16 GB RAM standard to run it well, and a nice SSD to make sure everything loads smoothly. Probably a big no-duh sort of thing for you. 3D Nand SSD's are hitting the market finally with huge storage and surprising performance boosts, so expect them to begin pushing down the rest of the market in the future. You'll be able to get some good deals on existing hardware, or buy in on newer tech.

If you're big on playing it, buying a game package now while its a few bucks cheaper might be a good idea. Wait for Star Citizen to near launch in 2016, build your PC. Good to go.
