At least we've got a beachhead established now, I wonder if they'll keep harassing us. The coast/cliffline is empty for a long stretch and there's no bases nearby, so I don't think anyone has any real interest in the area. It's essentially us two with a few guns, about 200 shotgun shells, 300 rifle ammo, and 1200 simple pistol bullets vs some tribe with a ton of dinos but a war going on with their neighbor. All I want to do is live in peace and tame wolves.

I kind of feel that way too. I don't mind pteradons all that much, though I wish they were a little slower, but the other birds can carry a ton of stuff, and one of them can have a base built on their back. I would be happier if birds only really served as scouts or fast travel with a few items rather than having the skies filled with people picking up anyone wandering around and killing them.

Right, so. Imagine you tame a wild Rex. That wild Rex happens to have all his level up points he got in the wild (as in pre-tame) into damage. Pretty good.
Now imagine you tame another 120 Rex who happens to have all his pre-tame points into Stamina. Wow, what a lucky guy you are, right? And it happens they're a male and female so you can make them fuck!
So you make them fuck, get the egg and go through the process of keeping it at the right temperature until it hatches. When it does so, the baby (or babies, since you can get twins or triplets from eggs for some reason) has a chance to inherent the parents' best stats.
Now imagine you're Mr Luck himself and the baby has both the dad's attack and the mother's stamina stat. Woaw, you now have a Rex with max possible attack damage and max possible stamina without putting any points into either. What a good dino. Now you just gotta keep it fed until it grows up, so make sure it doesn't starve. Or get shot by turrets the moment it's born, since you gotta claim them when they're born.

I recommend using pillars to just elevate your base, allowing you to build on more difficult terrain. Find somewhere that's got a lot of rocky, steep terrain that makes it difficult for dinos to traverse, drop a few wooden pillars to start, put down a few ceilings on them, build from there. Sure, you'll wind up with smaller buildings, but the open nature of the base makes it easier to defend with auto-turrets and plant X since they cover a larger angle, and the steep slopes of where you build prevent bigger dinos from making an easy run up to your house.

So to gather a lot of eggs, I just need to stuff a lot of females in a room with a male and wait? I'm trying to farm carno eggs for taming wolves, but we currently only have one male, one female. Does level have any effect on how many eggs drop, or should I just tame as many easy ones as I can?

How do I align gates to walls in bases? I can't just make a fence because people will run by with guns and shoot my dinos if I don't make it tall enough, and if I do, they'll just fly by and do it on a bird. I've been deleting walls in the base to get my critters in every night I log off and then immediately rebuilding them, but I'm going through a lot of stone and wood to do so.

I suppose no gate does help keep my profile down though.

Yeah, I know they snap to fences and can be placed really anywhere, but I noticed some guys get them to line up really nice, so I wasn't sure if there was a trick to it or not. I just don't want to place a gate and then have a gap between it and the walls where someone could shoot through it or something.

Does /arkg/ have a favorite tamed critter? I've only owned a Trike, Parasaur, and Dilo so far, none of them really did much for me. I was disappointed I couldn't ram things with the trike horn.

I haven't because it wasn't polished when it was put up for sale. ARK has that going for it, it was polished when it went into Early Access. It was actually one of the first Early Access games I was impressed by and with survival games you do not get a second chance. Once your game has an opinion its almost set in stone, and because ARK was polished a little more the only real complaints were bugs and how hard it was to run, both which can be fixed down the road. Rust could come out with the best patch yet and it probably wouldn't see ARK's numbers just because ARK is newer. But the next survival game will come along soon enough to take ARK's place, so just enjoy it while it lasts.

This happened on nfa PvP once. Someone was randomly added to Skydwellers. I had to fly to the other side of the Ark to unclaim his Dinos. He ended having to wreck his paracer platform I'm pretty sure.
It was all metal and everything. Felt bad man.

How do you determine what level a baby will be? I assumed the parents levels met at the middle, for instance if I had a lv 50 mother and a lv 100 father id get a 75 baby, but I just bred a 202 and a 187 and the baby came out as 147

The people who won it were pretty obviously stream sniping. One guy used a mount to get on top of the dragon and was going to steal it with his food, but about 20~ minutes after he got on it they started shooting at him after they had made no attempt to do so. They told the devs that they could reach him reliably so the devs took him off the dragon. It's bullshit and makes me never want to support these retards. The devs on stream didn't even know you can't level up torpor once a dinosaur has been tamed.

Crossbow Torpor = 50.75 * 200% (instant) + 50.75 * 250% (over 4 secs) = 228.375 Torpor

Primitive Longneck(Tranq Dart) DMG = 26(base) * 100%(quality modifier) = 26 DMG

I don't know what the quality modifier is on Apprentice Crossbows, but some googling told me 145% damage. Everything else was taken from the wiki (so who knows if any of it is accurate).

Your info is pretty spot on. Darts as they are are meant as a sidegrade to crossbows to allow for knocking out dinos with as little meat damage as possible, which comes in handy for fliers and herbivores. fortunately you can remedy that damage on carnivores by forcefeeding them meat before their hunger gets low enough for them to auto eat meat..

Its funny that guy says he thinks rust has so much more going for than ark though because my friends playing rust all thought the same. Reinstall drivers.
Reinstall game, deleting all content and folders to ensure it's gone first.
See if it uses a temp folder of some sort, delete it too.
Dunno if Steam syncs anything with it's cloud in this game, but if it does, stop it from doing so.

Me and my tribes had a couple of storage shelves just for meat. Just dump full stacks in them and come back later for easy spoiled meat. 30 spoiled meat per 10 minutes * the amount of storage you have.
