>>119814243 Dominions is a fantasy turn-based strategy game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.
The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 2800 units, 800 spells and 300 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them.
It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.
Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a strategy game.

The last flying samurai died this turn and I took Yomi's capital. Two players went Ai also. I'd be claiming the final throne right now if it wasn't for mages deciding not to use gems. I should be claiming it next turn or the one after though, depending on how mages will feel about scripting. So basically, the game will be over in 2-3 turns so finish your shit and whatever.

Fukushima is now staling. Is anyone interested in subbing for him? He's mainly Air and Astral magic, with a bit of water+nature. He's running a D9 bless on a demilich, and has 21 provinces left, 3 of which are sieged forts. I'm currently fighting him, so I can probably give more information if interested. If there's no interest and Fukushima still hasn't done anything in a day or so, I'll get him set AI.

VanillaDoD Caelum
>>119980169 Caelum in DoD starts out with 3 provinces to try to make up for its godawful starting position. The Throne of the Pantokrator got placed in one of those, so I nabbed it on turn 3.
I ended up in a war with both Kailasa and Ulm, and since their armies would massacre my birds I fought by running away and hiding in my one fort while my awake pretender, plus a bunch of Seraphine stealth-preachers flew around and killed their dominions. Kailasa got domkilled within the first year (maybe? Might have been a bit into the second).
Ulm just fell, largely thanks to Marverni destroying some of their temples, but its already year 4 and I have no provinces/money/research so I'm still pretty fucked. Interesting game, though.

'Chaff' also varies in terms of what it's used for. You can use them just as blockers for real units, but a blob of 100 of them with some basic leader can beat PD and be used to raid. Skelly-spam can be consider chaff creation, but it's kind of its own thing too. Chaff is usually not worth buffing since by it's nature it's cheap (preferably free) but when you're running armor of gold, antimagic, and fog warriors your 'chaff' can survive as though it were heavy infantry.

Also the reduction for armor+natural protection is small when heavily weighted towards one or the other. So shard guards get +4, which gets them up to 20 which is very noticeable.

I'll give you a quick rundown of EA Water - Therodos is not the least sucky. It has the pop kill + expensive troops thing going on, so it's actually pretty bad. R'lyeh has some freespawn mind blasters and chaff, but they're aquatic so they can't fight where it matters. Their priests are literally immobile and their mainstay mages need Amulets of Fish to get on land since they can't wear robes. They're bottom of the barrel because they just can't get on land, so even astral isn't enough to save them late game. Atlantis has almost everything amphibious, which sounds great until you get to the part where their only troops are infantry. Their mages are good for evo, but expensive and require underwater forts to recruit. They have recruitable H3s, but their sacreds are cap only, hideously high cost in resources, and so slow that all they can do is hold a line which makes them function as glorified chaff. Pelagia has the same problem that R'lyeh has in that their core stuff is aquatic. This means that their sacreds, cavalry, and dom-summons cannot get on land period. Their elite mages can at least wear robes of the sea to get on land and the patch gave them coastal recruit units, but they're still at a major disadvantage. The patch made it less bad than it used to be (since they used to be barely better than R'lyeh at keeping a toehold on land) Oceania is similar to Atlantis in that their stuff is largely amphibious, with the exception of Haliades that honestly are usually just lower tier capricorns. Unlike Atlantis, they can recruit mages from coasts. Also unlike Atlantis, they have cavalry in the form of their amphibious centaurs (including their cap sacred). They're basically like Pangaea but worse at everything aside from underwater stuff, which is still better than the other underwater nations.

Yomi sometimes has a hard time expanding early on, especially if you get shitty luck with indies. If you mind sacrificing your late game efficiency for early game expansion you can go with a SC Awake to help with that. Your national SC god and the earth serpent are classic choices but again you sacrifice easy access into the other magical paths that IMO are vital to your survival for the rest of the game

Usually when this is beneficial for you your opponent won't be deploying at the very front anyways, but it's worth noting.
Another random space thing to note - Shortbows deployed three spaces from the front of your line will be able to hit the middle of the enemy formation.

>>120145251 Maybe. It probably depends how many provinces per player there are. In a cramped map awake pretenders work a lot better.

Therefore the LlamaServer moved all your 2h files away before hosting again. This is why you will receive a new turn file in which you've staled. >There are two options from here. Either you can treat the stale turn as a random event and carry on with the game, or you can roll back the turn and try to host again. If you try the latter your game admin will have to do the rollback via the admin options on the LlamaServer website, and you will all have to do your turns again. Note that in this case it is _really important_ that you actually do redo your turn, rather than just sending in the same one again (which people sometimes seem to do because they don't believe me). If you just send in the same file, hosting will simply fail again. >I hope you manage to get the game back on course, whichever option you go for.

If you already have a perfectly good army (you should), fielding an SC is a lot cheaper than making a whole new army, and usually a lot more effective than making your existing army slightly more powerful.
SCs will ignore RoS or Earthquake, so they can take provinces to let your army advance carefully.
You should have plenty of non-unique mages and/or summons to cast that stuff. SC chassis are usually much harder to come by than chassis which can cast high-level elemental evocations.

As for scales, O and G are good, because giants are expensive and they both help bloodhunting. A touch of production is nice, since you can easily recruit the heavy armor giants (your specialty is extreme resilience). Magic can be very good, since you'll want to pump out a stream of crappy hags from every forest.
Probably the best chassis for this is an Irminsul (Dom7 N9, 9 scales, or Dom 6 N9E4, 6 scales).

Similarly, adding an additional 10% regen doesn't change the engagement profile for your werewolf thugs. Things that it can fight will either deal chip damage, which it regenerates with or without the N bless, or kill it, which makes the additional regen irrelevant.
In both cases you're taking a huge opportunity cost by going with an immobile pretender with high magic in a path that you already have access to instead of an awake expander, and all you get out of it is the opportunity to spend 5 pearls to let a skratti do stuff that the skratti can do anyways.

What is the cutest (mod) nation for dominions 4?

The mod inspector you guys linked me to is really neat, but it doesn't contain the descriptions of the nations themselves. Can you guys tell me which nations branch into which?(I'm not talking about something like Ulm or Marignon, which remain the same nations throughout, I'm talking about something among the lines of the Ermor and Pythium plot.)

>>120201148 well, it's kinda based on Earthdawn/shadowrun, so magic cycles in and out.
In that setting you get magic also being full on dead (just before shadowrun), and magic being so consentrated the world is overrun with horrors and the races have to survive in special bunkers (just before Earthdawn).
Those two parts aren't in Dominion, but the idea was that things cycle back to full magic, this just part of one cycle. The Wheel never stops turning.

superb sprites.
the developer is an idiot wasting his art and time on something that even an 8 year old would have balanced better. but i guess that if his idea was making a really overpowered and cool nation to play solo against multiple impossible AIs then it's ok.
one could argue that if you put one of those overpowered nations against the other then it would be balanced. but i doubt it and it's pretty stupid to not make them on the same power level of vanilla nations, as it would be easier to balance them and make the mod usable in some regular games.

it's extremely hard for one person to balance the vanilla game already.
By choosing to make mod nations more powerful you are taking away from your hands and from the hands of your testers many opportunities to draw comparisons and better balance
them.it might also be hard to match them with summons and regular gameplay(for example indie and mercenaries and event troops might end up underpowered in comaparison).you are making everything harder.
you are also throwing into the trashbin the possibility to run mixed games with vanilla nations and OMNIOCON nations which could have resulted in you getting high quality feedback and seeing your mod actually used.
what good do you get for this decision? nothing because good nations are cool even if at vanilla powerlevel.
also i am having big trouble thinking at how 0 resource -1 gold recruit anywhere troops from turn 1 could be easily balanced in the long run.

New dude here, can I ask some questions? Who to prophet? When to build forts/temples/labs?
Anonymous
>>120218117 It depends. For your first prophet you usually use the free commander you get at the start of the game, to support your expansion and bless any sacred troops you might use with Divine Blessing. If you don't need that support and don't use sacred units, you can use your starting scout for a stealthy H3 which has some nice applications. Some nations might choose not to get a prophet on the first turn, for example if you have a recruitable H3 (making them a prophet makes them H4, which is otherwise hard to get), or if you want an undead prophet (which can raise more undead for free).
The usual advice is to start building your fort somewhere in the second half of the first year, so it's finished early in the second year. temples and labs depends on your nation and on any indies you might want to recruit (a lot of them are shit, but some of them are extremely useful), but in most cases you'll want to build one of each in every fort.
