I've played the everloving fuck out of this series. I love it and I play it all the time.

But, for whatever reason, I never used blunt weapons from the start in DaS2. I read some posts on here saying how unreal it was and decided to give it a shot in SotFS... it's fucking retarded boys.
Like, it's legit OP. I am powerstancing a Mace and a Club at level 46 and doing 600+ damage with an L2. It's retarded.

The Darksword 2H rolling attack is a stab. The Man Serpent sword is too heavy to stab with please ignore all the huge axes and hammers the player can swing.

on SOTFS, you get an uchigatana at Mcduff's. You also get a craftsman's hammer there, which is better than the mace if i remember. That's still pretty early, but yeah, mace is really early.

Basically mace is only better for the old knights in tower o flame, everything else rapier does comparable damage while having superior range, animation and poise breaking

Does ADP help you recover from being staggered faster? Had some very fun fights with this tough customer, but I was never able to follow up a 2HR1 with a second 2HR1, he was always able to roll out of the first hit (though 1HR1 --> 1HR1 worked). Never had that happen so consistently before. I believe he had very high ADP as his rolls had a healthy amount of i-frames, so that was my guess as to why he was able to roll out, but maybe I'm just too tired to realize I'm being a slowpoke with my follow up swings.

Guy also used Denial, which was really neat to see in action. Only the second person I've ever seen use it so I didn't recognize the spell effect, it was a fun surprise when I got what I thought was a kill hit only for him to poise through the hit as he was revived and smack me back.

The Leo Ring is harder to get in SotFS. It's hard enough that's it's worth nothing, fuck that 50ft aggro range on the Heide Knights + the dragon dude.

Also, something makes me doubt that it does more damage, because I have the Fire Longsword +2 and the 2H R2 strong stab attack does less damage than a 1H mace R1.

Yeah, slow-swinging due to very low stamina are the only times I can really recall missing a follow up 2HR1. I'm generally careful to make sure I swing with stamina to spare (in >>120025638 I tried a follow up strike and you can see I've got more than enough stamina to do it) so I'm pretty sure that wasn't it. If he was using a modifier of some sort, that would make sense. That's kinda disappointing, but no harm, no foul, as the fights were good fun.

I do and that's what I'm using.
It was my understanding that dex reduces cast times, and while int would increase the damage of the actual glove melee itself, the only way to increase the damage is to upgrade it.

Try a normal rapier and just level dex to around 40, get Alva's armor as well, it's pretty easy to get early in the game. I had the same problem with DS2, after DS1 it was hard to get into but it's actually real easy

First From game was BB and this week I started playing DS. I just killed the Gaping Dragon but it took 30 minutes and it was the most dull thing I have ever done. My hits only did about 30 or so damage

It really depends, if you want a weapon like a rapier level dex for damage, if you're using an axe level strength, check the weapons scaling

In 1 Vitality and endurance are good but don't go past 40 in most stats they hit a soft cap then

Don't listen to everyone here who says it's the easiest boss in the game. Be careful about attacking it's head after it stabs the ground. It often charges and that shit is a one-shot.

vitality, endurance and the attribute your weapon benefits from, but vitality and endurance are enough to carry you through the game, you should stop at around 30 vit/40 end though
also upgrade your weapon and armor of choice

Other than that don't start with a master key, don't go towards the graveyard from your starting location, there's a path up the hill with zombie skeletons, that's where you want to go initially. And don't come back to these threads till you finish the game unless it's just for small info.

Except it is the easiest boss in the game.

Bridge minotaur is harder because you have virtually zero maneuverability, and crossbow assholes shooting at you if you didn't take them out first.

Ceaseless is harder unless you've already been spoiled on how to cheese the fight.

Giant moth is harder because of the risk of falling to your death, or not not being able to deal solid ranged damage

Pinwheel is harder because he will gank you.

Gaping is literally the easiest boss.

I'd get 22 Adaptability, 40 dexterity (if you want to use a rapier) around 30 vigor/endurance and maybe 20 Vitality

check http://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/Stats for an idea of what they do and when they softcap, I just gave you a pretty average PvE build, It's not great for PvP but I wouldn't recommend that until you're more familiar with gameplay/items/mechanics

There is no god stat like DS1's endurance though

I haven't tracked down where it's pulling base model size from, but you can find current model size from scanning for a float of 1, then scanning for a decreased value while in the animation for sitting at a bonfire, then back to 1 after leaving the bonfire. Lock the addresses and set the value.

It's really slipshod and only good for staging pictures.

+2 is pretty low, you should have a +5 weapon at least (provided that you use a weapons that is upgraded with regular titanite). Secondly you say you have 16 strength but what about dexterity? Remember that the longsword is a "quality" weapon and scales of of both stats.
Finally drakes and dragons are weak to lightning so if you bought the resin from the trader in the Depths or saved the ones from the Burg you could have applied that to your sword for extra damage.

It's generally best to infuse a weapon and find the relative buff.

If you aren't wanting to invest points into INT/FTH it's probably best to just infuse said weapon with fire and get enough attunement for Flame Weapon

It greatly depends on the weapon's scaling grades and your own stats. If a weapon has strong STR and/or DEX scaling, and you likewise have invested in STR and/or DEX, you're generally better off just leaving the weapon uninfused and then using a buff or resin on top of that for some extra damage.

Looking at the red rust scimitar specifically, I don't have much experience with it myself, but just looking at its stats it has some poor STR/DEX scaling on its own. Depending on your stats though, It may still turn out that the uninfused scimitar still works best for you, especially if you don't have any investment in INT/FAI. It may show that the STR/DEX scaling remains the same C/E after infusing, but it will in fact be a weaker C/E than an uninfused scimitar.

Test it out both ways and see which works best for you.

You can't get the ember until the Painted World, so it's pretty limited. Regarding the enemies that are weak to the auxiliary effect:
You're already past the tough early Black Knights. Either you killed them already or you're overleveled for them and stomp them anyway.
You only benefit against the Silver Knights if you do Painted World immediately and upgrade an Occult weapon before going through indoors Anor Londo
It's useful against Ornstein
It's useful against Gwyndolin
It's useful against Gwyn

Regarding pure stats:
They have slightly higher physical damage but slightly lower magic damage compared to Divine, regardless of your Faith scaling. It's negligible, but it does mean Occult has better counter damage like >>120048342 said, because counter damage only factors in physical damage.

If you're willing to put in the upgrading costs, it's nice for a Faith build to have both a Divine and an Occult weapon. It's not necessary at all, though.

You can aggro them one at a time, though, and they don't respawn.
The place you're at in that screenshot is a good place to be. You can attack them farther to the right but the lava is more dangerous over there.

I was in love with the first Dark Souls but got bored mid-game in Dark Souls 2. Like it had lost all its atmosphere and was just random encounters in a soul-less world.

Lately I'm playing this walking simulator called "The Old City: Leviathan" and that's exactly what I missed in DS2. The feeling of despair, the amazing music. Now I just need some enemies to crush, but there aren't.

Could Dark Souls 3 be any good or just again more worthless milking of the cow?

The upgrade paths are more interesting than Dark Souls but the ascension trees aren't universal, material types aren't universal, material costs aren't universal, and material costs are paced in a manner that basically makes grinding mandatory if you want to deliberately max out any specialized weapon

It's so unintuitive and tedious compared to Dark Souls

what platform?

at level 140 the only people who can see your sign will be SL116 - 164 (summon range for your sign is 10% of your soul level + 10) and at those levels people focus on pvp.
You will probably need a character few dozen levels below 140 if you want to coop.

It does slash damage which is bad, but other halberds are quality or strength weapons. The reach is slightly better on the Scythe, and it's a dex weapon so it has synergy with your Dark Bead as it benefits from the dex cast speed bonus. The Scythe is also a little bit lighter than other halberds. 14/40 allows you to swap to Uchi or BSS too for example.

You just gotta get a good feel of the projectile speed, listen to the audio cue and dodge.
Most ranged enemies you can mostly ignore until you get to melee range.

Just tried the demo build of DaSIII at gamesweek in Milan. I'd say the controls are pretty good and even the parry seems kind of balances, at least in pve. Tou can't stab an enemy that reacts too fast to your hit, but it's staggered and takes quite a bit of damage.

Depends on the situation. I usually roll through their shit until I can get to them, or I block by 2handing my weapon. I rarely use a shield, but if I am then that's an obvious choice, same with bows.

There are many.
1. Outspace them.
2. Hyperarmor through (or poise through if they're one-handing) them.
3. Attack them before they do.
4. Attack them after they attack.
5. Trade with them using something damaging.
6. etc.
If they are spamming running attacks though it's a bit more difficult. You would have to get a shield or learn to roll properly.

Scholar Edition changes NPCs around.

Heidi's Tower now has all the Heidi Knights. Shadow Assassins are placed in a few areas instead of being strictly a part of the Fexile NG fight. Certain enemy shuffles make areas more pleasant, others were placed in areas that just made it more obnoxious to get through.

Items were changed around. You can no longer shuffle Soul rings anymore to keep from going hollow / losing souls, since there's only one ring per play through now iirc

DLC all remained untouched.

Overall, SotFSE is pretty solid. Nothing crazy, but I personally prefer the enemy shuffle over the original enemy placements. They're not as obnoxious and frustrating, but some are still dumb as shit. New shaders make navigating the poison tunnels and the misted woods kind of a fucking bitch though, cus you can't see dick with the new screen effect.

Put something underneath the tabard. Too many cosplayers just throw on a coat with nothing underneath, forgetting that there's SUPPOSED to be a cuirass under there, and they look like they're just wearing a coat. Case in point, pic related. The waist shouldn't narrow that much since the idea is that you're just wearing a cloth tabard over the normal knights set.

They really need to change the way shield bashes work.

It should be a forward charge with little to no startup that stuns long enough for a followup to be possible. For greatshields, it should pretty much break any poise and inflict guardbreak.

For PvE it's pretty useless, might be OK on a select few bosses and enemies

For PvP you shouldn't have to worry about the durability unless you're in a really long fight or you hit his shield a lot

Reinforcement calling bell hollows and armored fatties are certainly from BB, dogs are using the same animation as BB dogs, halberd and axe enemies have the same attacks as Hemwick's mad hags.

I don't know how you could have trouble with the normal version unless you're doing it right after Quelaag or something.

By that point, you should be able to kill them in 1-2 hits. Just dodge one attack, hit them, and you're done.

Before you go back, attack a wall at the bottom on Quelaag's nest right before the tunnel to the demon ruins to find a bonfire and her sister, the Fair Lady. This will be helpful later to bypass Blighttown when you come back to the Ruins.

You can now exit the entrance of Quelaag's Domain back into the poison swamp, and go up the ramp to the water wheel. Go up that path to find a shortcut back to Firelink Shrine be prepared to rage and tears, and head for Sen's Fortress.

The issue with powerstancing and dualwielding rapiers is that they stagger like half as well as a double handed single rapier.
Also Blacksteel Katan WILL be your endgame weapon, its the best scaling DEX weapon in the game and really strong in PvE in general

Should I go with a chaos rapier or dagger for crits? Mugenmonkey says rapier has higher damage, but the dagger has higher crit scaling. Does that mean the dagger is better if I'm just gonna use it for crits?

Rapier class weapons have a hidden crit modifier. The best crit weapons are (chaos) rapier, (chaos) bandit knife or the silver tracer. For .5 weight you have the dagger and the mailbreaker, only use these if you can't fit the better crit weapons on your build. If I can, I always use a chaos rapier secondary for chip damage and good crits. If I can't carry that I'll use the mailbreaker.

It is if your powerstancing 2 katans that both have 100% DEX damage scaling and 1.5 damage modifier on them.

There are very very very very few cases in which a thrusting weapon actually deals more damage, the only major ones being ogres, you are far better off playing with 2 katans that can 1 shot most enemies with a rapier as a spare than you are powerstancing rapiers.

If you want to run rapiers then you 2 hand them, powerstanced rapiers are the most useless shit in the world.

Anon thrust is better than slash against really heavy armor, its only relevant the first time you get to tower of flame and against ogres, slash beats it.

Powestanced rapiers are shit because they keep 1 handed poise damage values, they can't break the poise of jack shit and they won't 1 hit kill enemies either.
Dual wield rapiers are equally as terrible for the same reason
You run katans with a rapier as a backup, or you run pure rapiers and 2 hand them all the time, but you will still be far slower than just using katans.

While I liked how consistent the settings were as a world, it all felt too samey for me. Combined with a lukewarm story, few weapons to experiment with compared to Souls games, lessened build variety, and uninteresting NPCs, I rank it below DS2. A decent game, but disappointing when compared to what came before it.

That said, I liked Amalia, Darkbeast Paarl, and Gerhmen, and the general creepy factor of certain enemies.

I've finally decided to give Dark Souls a proper shot after giving up on the armored boar area, and now I'm in Blighttown. It's a fun game, though the lack of direction is sometimes aggravating.

How is DS2? I see a lot of shitty hit box webms and so far the hit boxes in DS1 have been so good, is it a real problem? Has it been patched? Considering adding it to the wishlist on Steam to get it if it's on sale some day or something.

If you don't have a good idea of where to go to next, make sure not to skip any cutscenes the first time around, and if needed you can talk to various NPCs to see if they drop any sly hints.

As for DaS2, I felt that the combat was improved upon, but that the quality of the lore and level design have taken a pretty rough hit. Areas seem neat at first glance, but suffer from being appallingly short, or poorly integrated with the rest of the world.

All told, though, if you see a good sale price for it this holiday season, I'd recommend picking it up just to give it a spin.

Hmm, cheers guys. I'm going through DS1 pretty slowly, like I said I'm in Blighttown and got 12 hours logged, but it's enjoyable. Bosses are still stressful and new areas are tense, but it's interesting that the more I play the more relaxed I feel, less worried about my souls and dying, and more interested in just exploring the areas. It really isn't like any other game I've played.

Sort of turned into a blog post but the game's just really interesting and don't have the opportunity to talk about it much.

While I'm asking questions, I was wondering if it's generally recommended to not over-invest in upgrading weapons? I've got a Longsword +5, but I just got the Iaito and am thinking of jumping to that. I've got some Large Titanite shards too though, which I could use to bump my Longsword up now. But who knows what other weapons I'll pick up? Just don't want to kick myself down the road when it turns out I prefer to use rapiers or something.

Later you'll find big knights made of silver. The one that wields a sword drop a different type of longsword that is great for a first playthrough: Fun, strong, but not broken.

Thanks! I did a bit of reading on the stats scaling just to make sure I didn't make a full retard build. The slow movesets of some of the Str weapons looked like I'd be pissed off that they were 'unresponsive' if I got locked into an animation so I felt like Dex was the way to go.

Yeah, that can suck. But once you learn to time your attacks, you get to really throw your weight around, and it feels fucking fantastic.

Nothing quite as satisfying as getting an enemy to whiff or misjudge an attack within your range, and gleaming as your fuckhammer or compensation-sword comes down on their soft, collapsible head.
