>I guess the initial version of the dungeon was quite difficult because Yoshi-P was getting heated telling the team that this shouldn't be a 4-person raid! However, the dungeon underwent some adjustments afterwards, and ultimately it was balanced just right to be fun.

So I've levelled SCH from 30 to 50 insofar, and having attempted to silence every enemy spell with Selene literally the only move it's worked on has been Paralysis - which is cast by enemy thaumaturges and the final boss of Qarn.

Is that right? Because it's like why even fucking bother.

Silence/Stun are only useful in really specific instances.

For example, there's one endgame raid (A3S) where you have to stun or silence a number of adds when they cast a certain ability. But aside from that, no current endgame content uses silence IIRC.

It's sad, but the developers have basically designed the fights to be done in a specific manner. As a result, most status effects the player can inflict don't work on bosses or even most normal enemies since it would interfere with their design.

I don't care if it's unpopular but Square needs to do what Blizzard did and lock end game dungeons/raids out unless you can clear a solo instance.

For Tanks, it tests their ability to tank and hold hate. For DPS, it's a legit DPS check.

If you can't clear your solo instance you can't do dungeons or raids. Square needs to add the same. Stop giving the babies their easy game.

OP compared to its Support DPS role I think so, you can do some respectable damage and also with Gauss you'd only have cast timer on the first attack because the procs also cancel the timer. So you'd be laying it on a bit.

Also GCD synchs would be less important for your burst cause you'd still have a pretty robust pew pew.

WoW has systems in place to teach players from the ground up to not suck. There is NOTHING like this in XIV.

So I resubbed. Being doing dailies. After those, I don't have much else to do. Decided to start messing around with my relic again, on the novus lights stage. Peeps say to run CT. No one runs CT anymore.

Can someone explain why people defend the stupid shit they are doing in this game to me?

Players raged at Square over the Deus EX dlc and they backed down, players raged over payday 2 microtransactions and they changed it.

Here nobody complains about anything they do and defends them for doing it, even players that say they will quit if they do something don't end up quitting when they do it.

I haven't played for a while but I checked out the 3.1 video and was talking to some friends and they and many on the official forums are defending things that seem completely terrible.

A cash shop selling unique outfits, something no other mmo with a sub does as far as I know. Because the way gear looks offers a huge amount of prestige.

Cash shop selling inventory space in a game with inventory issues.

The developers taking a 3 month fucking break after an expansion releases when they should be putting more effort in to make sure an expansion is a success.

What the fuck?

Hi, original creator of the Ebin Eliminator here. I was checking the archives for some posts and randomly decided to check out this alias, I was surprised to see it's still active to a degree.

I just wanted to note that I actually left the general, game and even 4chan shortly after creating him. I don't know who picked it up after me but I thank you for being dedicated with it and giving me laughs.
A lot of the junk I mentioned on the Eliminator was completely made up or pieced together from whispers in the thread. Although a lot of you ebins at it up and loved it anyway, I wanted to state that I was never an Ebin myself nor have I ever been a member of the Ebin (*phew*) list.

Anyway whoever is still dedicated enough, thanks for keeping me smiling.

Tempest Wing isn't the issue, even if you hit someone with it, the problem is the severity of the strike damage because it seems random at times.

Yeah, I have 3 level 60 gatherers too. Got them to 60 the first week HW came out thanks to collectable gathering.

HQ gear, or at the very least, full RQ gear sets can make the difference between collecting 3-5 collectibles per node and collecting 1 or 2, and it's especially important when you're looking to gather items a level above your current.

But sure, let's pretend that gear doesn't matter in the slightest..

I don't really have any faith that their "adjustments to damage calculation" or whatever the fuck are going to preserve the current tank playstyle, which is the only time that tanking's been any fun at all since ARR launched.

You had to choose between better survivability, or better damage for accessories, with melded accessories offering an optimal middle ground. In addition, it incentivizes bringing DRG or MNK for the Str party buff.

If tank damage scaled off Vit it'd make the game a lot more boring and safe for them overall

Of course it's a good argument to keep tank DPS the way it is now.

When a tank's role is relegated solely to defense and his damage doesn't matter beyond keeping hate, he's only doing half as much work as anyone else in the party. This is not fixable short of giving the entire game a combat overhaul greater than the one from 1.0 to 2.0.

When a tank is relegated to a purely offensive role, he is also doing less work than anyone else in the group, because tank DPS rotations are (by necessity) much simpler than those of 'proper' DPS classes.

When a tank has to do both of those things at the same time, it actually becomes a fun, active role to play, because the two halves of a tank's gameplay add up to basically the amount of work you'd have to do to play any other class.

A3S was a great example of a demanding fight, despite being overtuned.

Damage was spiky, so tanks/heals need to be ready for the checks there.

Debuffs demanded coordination and sometimes DPS from healers.

The phase pushes and enrage were pretty tight, so the emphasis on doing mechanics correctly and efficiently was there.

If tanks did less DPS they would be sitting in tank stance longer and heals wouldn't have to pay as much attention, which is meh design.

Managing cooldowns isn't really as prevalent in Alex as it was in coil. There are no extreme tank busters outside of Hypercompressed Plasma so its generally just rotating CDs while putting out damage.

Currently tanks are about 60% DPS and 40% tanks, in reality they should be at 30% DPS and 70% tanks. Note that is not the DPS they actually output, just more of their role in a fight.

The idea that Coil was more dependent on "tanky" tanks and their cooldown management is one part truth and four parts that the DPS checks were just never harsh enough to push the playerbase into optimizing tank DPS during progression.

If they managed to wipe Final Coil out of everyone's memory and then released it tomorrow, scaled up to current gear levels, it would be absolutely obliterated, way faster than it was the first time, just due to the fact that tanks and healers are now accustomed to and comfortable with tanking in DPS stances between tankbusters.

It was more the fact that Alex had an actual gear wall compared to coil. If Alex was clearable at i85ish like what people are at during its release, you can be sure as hell it would have been down fast. The DPS checks on T13 were actually very high at the time, same with t9 and t5. It was just also that Tanks COULDNT really go into tank stance while main tanking because things hurt so hard. Taking a flatten at base ilvl was practically impossible without tank stance. not to mention cleaves doing 80% of a tanks life.

Is there any better way of getting gud as a healer? I feel I'm stuck between easy level max content and insane savage shit, and no way to actually properly make myself better.

Other than practicing stance dancing more (which is more of a reaction to mechanics) I just don't feel like I'm being challenged in way that seems to be able to improve myself.

Instead I skip from easy stuff to hardest content in game and it makes me feel shitty because I blame myself.

Taking a Flatten at i110 with no tank stance is no harder than taking a Hypercompressed Plasma at i180-i185 with no tank stance. Neither was 3x Flare Breath really much more dangerous than two Gunnery Pods and a Royal Fount, in equivalent stance/gear.

The time in between tankbusters in T13 absolutely could have been done in a DPS stance, as long as you switched back to your tank stance for the big hit (the same as it is now). The difference is just that you didn't NEED to have your main tank stance-dancing to optimize DPS in T13 (you didn't even need to have your DPS wearing i110 accessories; most of the earlier clears happened with i90 melded gear), even during the week 1-2 clears, whereas for A3S there was just no way that you were getting the clear without it.

I recall they're finally making mobs grant exp in level 50 dungeons, but dungeon exp is pretty garbage anyway.

This entire post is based around the time of tank busters, but the important thing to note is that they came out a hell of a lot faster in coil than they did in Alex. the only "tank buster" in alex is once every 2 minutes, where even flame breaths could kill a tank not in tank stance without proper mitigation, which you didn't get much of since it was magic damage. The damage on week one T13 was actually insane, most people didn't get to see T13 until months later where you had that 20% hp buffer that you got from tank stance.

It didn't matter much that the tankbusters came out faster, because they never outpaced your cooldowns, and because (more importantly) Coil would generally 'pause' damage on the rest of the party when a tankbuster was incoming, so it was always easy for healers to top off tanks and get them shielded, whereas A1S has Preys going off at the same time, A3S has raid damage all over the place, and A4S has crazy shit going on everywhere.

The 3x Flare Breaths weren't really more deadly than the normal weaponskill cleaves you find anywhere in Savage, either. They could be healed through without much in the way of mitigation, but only if your healers actually trained themselves to deal with those sorts of spikes. That training was never required in Coil, though, because DPS + Tank stance DPS + OT DPS + opportunistic Healer DPS was enough to clear T13.

The damage in between tankbusters (and it doesn't really matter how often the tankbusters come, since you just tank stance up and mitigate for them, then drop tank stance) would have been healable with no real difficulty aside from (scripted, predictable) cleaves, but it was easier for tanks and healers to forego that DPS optimization because it wasn't required.

I really think playing multiple classes should be required by the story. I've actually learned more about healing by playing paladin and summoner than from playing the actual healing classes. To make clemency work on tank busters you NEED perfect pre-cast precision. Likewise, managing a summoner pet well has far more apparent results than derping around with a fairy..

The same goes for dps and tanking. You don't know what the dps need until you've played one.

I think they should be trying to tune things so that they're completable on week one, but only by the top 0.1% world first types. That generally seems to translate into the general raiding community taking around two months to get it down, and the casual raiding community being able to get it down during the catch-up patch.

Then to satisfy the people who find that too easy, they should release an ultra-hard, tightly-tuned Savage version in the catch-up patch, the way they did with SCoB. The only thing they did wrong with Savage in 2.3 was making it give loot and have a lockout, instead of being free to enter and only offering titles as a reward.
