The only things that 3.0 made irrelevant were Final Coil, Keeper of the Lake, Wanderer's Palace HM, and Amdapor Keep HM. Literally every other part of ARR was exactly as relevant in 2.55 as it is now.

There's nothing wrong with secondary stats right now. Their effectiveness per point has been cut to 1/2~2/3 of what they were in 2.5, but the number of each secondary stat you get on each piece of gear has basically doubled.

Switching from high-Det/low-SkS to high-Crit/low-Det on an i200 bow would be a DPS increase on par with a +1 to Weapon Damage.

In any case, the weapons are probably i200, and their comment about "making it easier for players to clear Savage" is in a roundabout, "Now you can get Esoteric-tier weapons on every class instead of needing to wait three weeks per weapon" sort of way, and I seriously doubt there's any chance of them being i210, but i205 is possibly on the table. The overall community reaction to Savage has been so horrible that I wouldn't be surprised if they intend to just use 3.1 as a vehicle to shovel gear at players to get through, and then agree to never talk about it again while they design something more on the level of Coil for 3.2.

The difficulty spike from A2S to A3S is far and away the biggest criticism of Savage. A seriously big percentage of the playerbase who used to clear Coil well in advance of the catch-up patches sits at an overall group skill level where A1S and A2S are faceroll-easy, but A3S doesn't feel feasible to clear without a patch to add alternate methods of gearing.

(And regardless of how you or me or anyone else feels about those groups, it's led to a gigantic decrease in the overall level of interest in raiding, and the near death of any raiding community at all on a lot of servers as the remaining people who are still interested all consolidate on Gilgamesh, both of which are pretty huge problems the game is facing right now.)

Warrior doesnt need a nerf. Drk does similar dps off-tanking and more dps main-tanking. If they nerf warrior they better buff defiance to be on par with grit and shielf oath migration-wise

Warrior mitigation is absolutely on par with both of the other tanking classes. If anything, there's a solid argument for a Warrior in Defiance having better overall eHP options than a DRK in Grit or a PLD in Shield Oath.

The fact that Warrior has infinite TP needs to be addressed to balance them with the other tanks, and unless they never do a DPS check again, Warriors being the best source of the Slashing debuff will almost by default leave them in a position where they're seen as too essential not to bring.

Warrior damage doesn't need to be nerfed, or buffed, and Warrior mitigation doesn't need to be nerfed, or buffed. What needs to be nerfed is their sustainability, and (although it needn't take the form of a direct nerf) the reliance on Storm's Eye needs to be lessened.

At this point, it's not even quite so much that it's tuned too high for the levels of gear that people have (between A1-2 drops and Esoterics) so much as it is that the people who are still working on it have been so demoralized by it that they're barely even trying to win anymore.

I've been group-hopping and playing as a fill-in for the last month and a half since my static split, and at this point, I've seen at least half a dozen groups that all have the DPS to clear it, the healing to clear it, and are capable of the coordination required to clear it, and are definitely capable of remembering the fight script, but who are just not getting anywhere, because they just don't expect to or care about winning or progressing anymore.

If 3.0's gear progression had let people be at the gear levels they're at now, but after, say, a month and a half of raiding instead of four months (for instance, if they'd taken a page from SCoB/FCoB and put one weapon upgrade item per week into A2S the way that you had Tomestones from T7/T11), I don't think people would feel much differently about Alexander than they did about Coil.

That makes almost literally no difference. If there's something that's going to kill you immediately after you switch into your tank stance, then you'd be healed for part of your missing HP by the Inner Beast that you're using to mitigate that damage, and you'd be healed for the rest of it by the Adloquium you're getting to prepare you for the tankbuster.

If you don't need Inner Beast and you're not getting an Adloquium, then it's because the damage you're about to take isn't severe enough to stand a chance of killing you, in which case Defiance's healing boost is going to render the difference meaningless long before your stance cooldown would even let you switch back to Deliverance.

It does matter though. Defiances ehp boost is completely reliant on another person or being fully healed. And that you can use inner beast to heal yourself a bit doesnt change that.

So I have a problem.
The only role I'm not totally incompetent with is healers, but I don't really excel with any of them and have no real preference either (yes I do DPS; by "don't excel" I mean I struggle to pull more than 150 DPS in progression raids and generally run out of MP (~30% overhealing).

I have both AST and SCH to 60, WHM to 50.

Thunder III is more potency than Fire IV, so use it in place of a Fire IV in your rotation, for example:

Instead of F4 -> F4 -> F1 -> F4 -> F4
you would F4 -> F4 -> F1 ->T3 -> F4

Single player games are very controlled environments in terms of the number of entities on screen, so they can squeeze out all the "quality" they want.

MMO's have to account for the fact that there may be 500 people in one player and tons of spell effects from each of those players. The developers have to be a little bit more conservative with things like poly count and texture resolution. Also, in the case of this game, PS3 limitations.

DoTs drop off enemies left and right, people dip too hard and too fast, I burn through my MP too quick and have to pop HQ X-ethers. Things like that.

I just don't understand one thing.
3.2 will most likely have i200 ish crafted gear, i220 unupgraded tomestone gear, i230 upgraded + 2nd alexander savage and some shitty i200-i210 2nd alex normal gear.
Considering progression, i won't bother to meld unupgraded tomestone gear since after i upgrade that piece materia will go to waste and even 2AS gear doesn't necessarily need a pentameld because it's already the best gear for the update.

1) Raid content is tuned assuming that people will have pentamelded raid gear. Anyone interested in raiding is nor forced to spend millions of gil and countless hours melding.

Or

2) Raid content is not tuned assuming that people will have pentamelded raid gear. People who do will faceroll it unless the fight difficulty lies in mechanics and not DPS checks. This would be the better of the two outcomes assuming the devs suddenly start making interesting fights.

By the way they worded it on the live letter slider, it was only possible to meld the 1st slot with a main stat (light blue materia like str, int etc) and then the rest could be overmelded with sub stat materias (accuracy, det, crit).

Yes, yes.

Ideally you want to group the adds up if you have good AoE. The Swap is easy as hell assuming you're fast because the snakes are locked in place for a few seconds when the buffs swap.

I've both tanked and DPS'd that fight, and tanking is FAR easier in my experience.

How do you make friends in this game? In games like WoW it used to be easy back in vanilla days since grouping was mandatory and there was no duty finder, now everything is automated and it matches you with randoms. I don't do savage raiding so joining a static is pointless.

I thought that strange orange dot/hexagon boss in PSHM looked neat, there was a big dinosaur too. That's about it. Nice graphics on Singularity Reactor extreme, but the mechanics they showed- more tethers, shiva-style aoes, etc. just didn't seem very interesting. Void Ark looks like shit.

Just stay with the adds. The absolute worst thing you could do is run them all over the place. Most of then have some sort of cleave so you definitely don't want them getting in the way of the DPS.

The only other advice I have is to drop grit, activate blood weapon, and make sure to DA+CnS for the on-his-back phases. You need as much DPS as posdible for those, but blood weapon should be able to give you enough mana back to re-enable grit and go back to tanking adds after each.

You need to reach x collectibility to make it turn-in able
Gear scaring is really big so you might be stuck for some time on lower stuff
Hit the slot once to reveal it instead of using toil and go for 3x discerning + methodical
Later you will want to use discerning with single mind to reach the minimum needed collectibility for maximum turn ins

When you get 60 it all turns into rng with impulsive
It's rather hard to understand at first but it becomes clear once you actually do it in-game

How do I avoid this? It's never an issue during dungeons or other short encounters, but for one long boss fight I eventually run out while no one else seems to have that problem, even other DRKs.

Drop out of Grit when no heavy damage is incoming and use Blood Weapon. It reduces TP usage and you deal more overall DPS.

Otherwise ask a BRD/MCH/NIN for some TP help.

I just hit 28 pugilist. When does this class start getting fun? so far it's been the same boring shit for 10 levels.

Also, I've gained a new appreciation for tanks who sit still and let me nail my positionals. When the mob is spinning like crazy it's more or less a crapshoot.

Seeing as I've leveled exclusively through dungeons/guildhests so far--how the fuck is Monk supposed to solo? Is it even possible to land positionals when the monster is constantly facing you without a stun?

If you want positionals you have to sort of clip through the enemy right as they go to autoattack and hope your positional lands. It's a crapshoot at the best of times.

Every DPS class in this game is built around performing a long rotation.
In as far as you're killing random shit on the overworld most classes are at an equal disadvantage. Monks have it the worst while BLM has it probably the easiest.

Waiting for fates will probably be the longest part, unless they changed that.

Undersized lvl50 dungeons all take around 5-6 minutes each now with a group of 3. Just remember to only put your relic back on for the last boss.

I am aware of that. I actually despised healing them when I played because they always stood in their little corner across the map from the group. They often refused to do any mechanics (thus requiring me to stop broiling), and made everyone wait for their stupid cooldowns (though not as annoying as waiting for perfect dodge). I like the robes in this game though and some of the staffs are quite nice. Also big damage.

I didn't mind nin and drg when I played them, but I find the 60 drg rotation really boring after its orgasmic 50 trillion damage opener. Nin is cool but can be so frustrating with mudra slippage and tanks ruining my trick attack vuln procs by spinning the boss. Also I am absolutely terrible at ninja.

Yes, the translation team shouldn't have altered this much stuff.

Apart from non-english versions getting the whole fire/fira/firaga a lot of classes have their abilities renamed too.
SCH abilities in the jap version are more like actual battlefield medics and MNK abilities are straight up badass anime tier. Both of them got shafted the most IMO cause let's be honest, just look at those MNK ability names. Who wouldn't want to play that class?

There's mechanics that make sense for them to do, and mechanics that don't. And it's up for the group to decide how that's going to play out. As for standing past AOE healing range, there's usually no reason for that unless they're trying to bait something like A1S resin bombs, and even then it can be done intelligently without losing uptime.

And everyone basically needs to wait on CDs on openers. Battle Litany, Raging Strikes, and Perfect Balance are all 3m. And everything else BLM needs (except for Quelling), are 60-90s.

The worst part, for me at least, is the fucking cringy faux-Middle English they have everyone spouting in the English translation. The Japanese version uses very straightforward, normal language, but for some ungodly reason the translation team went for all-out flowery high fantasy shit for the English. I think it would help DRK out a lot if they went back and retooled most of their Dark Arts skills so that both the DA and the normal versions were useful.

DA Power Slash is too weak, so is DA Dark Dance
non-DA Souleater is useless, non-DA Carve and Spit is only useful for prolonged AoE fights (and even then it's kinda weak)

Dark Mind and Dark Passenger are really the only DA-enabled skills that really work in both forms.

The new materia shit on dropped/currency gear sounds horrible. Just another giant time/RNG/money sink that you're forced to participate in and more room for people in DF to be shitters.

If they want to force materia on us they need to fix the horrible materia system. Adding a zone to grind materia in doesn't fix shit.
