Did they fix DaS2's fucked up hitboxes in SotFS or something?

I just started playing it for the first time, having not touched DaS2 in over a year. Suddenly, I was able to beat pursuer on my first try with 87 AGL. I do get hit sometimes when rolling away from enemy attacks, but this is much less bullshit than I remember it being.

Did something change, or did I somehow get good without even playing for a year?

From what he said when I asked, it works online, and it's possible to PvP like that, but not as an invader, unless both people have debug, I think. He said it might work for a fight club of sorts, though

Never played DeS so just reading people taking about it, I imagine Storm King being a gigantic thing that flies on the skies and you can't hurt with your weapons, so you have to use this sword, the Storm Ruler, which is actually a giant mechanism that pushes a giant blade in an arc.

I imagine the boss fight being about surviving the attacks of the Storm King, while luring him to the Storm Ruler to hit him once. After every hit, you have to manually pull a set of levers around the big as fuck level (that has respawning enemies) to bring the blade back to position so you can repeat the process.

How much did I got right?

You're kinda right.
You can hurt the weapon with your weapons, bows mostly. There are tons of Storm Beasts (think Cliffracers a la Morrowind kinda) but they do not respawn, they're easily killed with the Storm Ruler, the weapon made and given specifically for this battle (it's special feature anyways.)
You don't have to pull levers or anything like that, just dodge the incoming fire from the enemies above in the gray sky and draw Storm Ruler from its resting place near the cliff leading out into the ocean. From there you go head to head with the boss with the sword in your hand.

For PvP, maybe.
PvE was amazing, Atmosphere and world design were a return to form. It has probably the best first boss and final boss of all the games.

The problems with BB PvP were low build diversity, bullet spamming, hopsteps making almost anything safe, stamina being a suggestion more than a limit, and the bell system in general. Dark Souls 3 might have one of those, but everything else looks great.

I will never understand why people think this. Also, how is DS2 clunky?

In DS2 phantoms have their own healing items, you can equip shields in your right hand and actually use them as shields, powerstancing is a thing, 2handing your left-hand weapon is a thing, you can't be invaded while sitting at a bonfire, you throw pyromancies more than 3 feet, light sources work for all players instead of just the person using it, you can pick up small signs in areas where you've killed the boss, you can invade humans and hollows, you can invade in areas where the boss is dead, the name engraved ring is a thing, hexes are a thing, matchmaking in general isn't asscheeks, you can parry with pretty much every weapon, you have more control over how you move on ladders, 8-way roll while locked on is a thing, you can warp to every bonfire, and the smithing system doesn't require half a dozen blacksmiths and multicolored shards/chunks/slabs.

All of these improvements were packaged in a game with markedly downgraded visuals and bad design choices like soul memory, a minimum of only 5 I frames, and no reusable orbs. The gameplay itself is better than previous Souls games despite those flaws.

Yes. No one invaded me. Ran a new character 12 PM ~ 7:30 PM PST, stopped at SL60.
Even ghosts were rare.
I invaded twice, but it was still slow and took multiple attempts.

They now possess a "sweetspot" mechanic. They will only do full damage if your swing makes contact with the enemy at the head of the halberd. If they hit the pole, it will do about half damage.
On the other hand, halberds have an impressive damage output. It really rewards careful positioning, which shouldn't be difficult for you to pull off if you're a DS1 vet.
My PvP experience with them is limited; I took the BKH out for a spin against another player only once in my playtime so far. In that fight, the other guy died in two hits. Through a fog wall.
Make what you will of that.

They are slow, and telegraphed, but they are also great at roll catching. They boast high backstab damage. You have to be good at spacing too, as they have the same sweet spot system of reapers.

A lot of people point to the running 2hr1 as being the strongest part of the halberd moveset, but its a pretty risky endeaver, as more than likely it leaves you with no stamina left.

Halberds are okay in pvp. Mid tier.
Their best move is the 1hWD, and you can be annoyingly, effectively passive with it.
The entire rest of the 1h moveset sucks a fat one.
It's best to 2h them and just kite.
2hr1 is very strong, and the combo will take out at least half of someone's health or more if you're using Mastodon.
2hr2 is great, but you need lots of END to use it safely. If you run out of stamina, that's a backstab.
The 2hWD is good as a roll catch after a combo and not really anything else. It's very easy to backstab.

Fucking amazing if you know what you're doing.

Mastodon Halberd is objectively the best as it has the highest damage output and largest sweet spot.

Halberds are all about spacing, your R1's are good to throw out every now and then, and your 1H running attack can catch people off guard since it is a fairly wide sweep.

You've just got to learn the weapon, anon. Don't rely on a backup weapon unless you're really terrible and in that case should just not use halberds at all

Dark Souls 2 can stand pretty easily on its own two feet. It may not be considered a masterpiece by many and has some really glaring flaws, but it's not a bad game.

If you've never played DS2 before, Scholar is a nice investment

If I had any complaint about the game, it's that From's policy on "balancing" it consists of massively nerfing everything that was considered "best" in the Meta. AS a result, some of the old, fun weapons got slammed with the nerf stick so hard that they're nigh-worthless.

If vigor is understandable, though excessive, int softcaps at 50 and it's almost useless to raise them beyond that point. Lower those and raise attunement up to 50 and ADP until your agility would be 99.

an easy build for you to use in my opinion with the Ice Rapier would be:

faith should be kept as low as you can unless using hexes then the rest of the stats into dex/str/end as you see fit

Ash Lake is what you see in the intro. The "sky" is very high up at the Kiln so if some water did drop down there it could be around the Kiln's walls, there's definitely enough space. We just can't see there, so it's up to your imagination to decide what's behind the walls, like water for example.

Nodes are anyone you can connect to, summoning or invading.

The game limits you to ~20ish people at a time unless you restart your game wait around a bit and start recollecting nodes.

Most likely, they'll all be the same people, around your level.

Grinding. Balder knights are good enemies to grind on because their armor is great, weapon is great, and they drop titanite shards as well, so you'll have plenty to upgrade weapons and armor up to the point you start needing chunks.

You can be summoned, summon or invade anyone who is your level -10%, so if you were level 9, 10% would be theoretically under level 1, so could you play with them?

playing the game normally, you should have beaten taurus, most of the enemies on the way to taurus, most enemies in parish, and maybe popped a few canned souls from firelink by the time you get to gargs. For most people, that's enough souls to boost them to 12-15. People who just beat gargs and want to co-op right after should be around the 18 area.

no, first off, white soapstone range is different than invasion item range

for co-op, you can be summoned by players who are (your level +/- 10) +/- 10%of your level, meaning if you are level 20, you can be summoned by players who are from levels 8-32

for invasions, you can invade players who are your level - 10% of your level, if you are 20, you can invade anyone who is 18 or higher.

So I finally got around to playing DaS2 and while I'm enjoying the game I'm worried about my Soul Memory. My first run has been mostly blind and I've been fucking around fashion souling so I'm at SL 144 (stopping at 150) and around 2mil SM. Once I have upgraded my shit and gotten to 150 I'm going to equip the Agape Ring and at that point I'm most likely going hover somewhere under 2.5mil SM. I really enjoyed invading and pvp in general of the original Dark Souls and I'm worried being so high SM is going to restrict my options. Am I fucked? Do I need to start a new playthrough?

It's a standalone, but it works with many weather mods perfectly.

the only thing I don't like about it (that they couldn't really fix) was that whenever you do enter cover it has a millisecond of load time where it changes the ambient light around you slightly.

It's very noticeable in a snowstorm,

Why is Heide's tower of flame so fucking far away as seen from Majula, but when you actually go there it's like a 1 minute walk? Same goes for Iron keep. How the fuck is it above harvest valley? Sounds like you have bad luck. I have never been softbanned on the original DaSII and there was reports against me in the steam forum, along with a YT video of me cheating.

It's a shit Souls game due to it not having much variety of outlandish fights, enemies, bosses.

i usually go mostly naked like most other fights anyway, except for a family mask if it helps. with fastroll, the edge of the aoe is 3 or 4 rolls away from the king and you have time for 4 or 5 from when he starts gathering himself. the rest are easily dodgable or blockable with crest, which is my shieldfu and i get it as soon as i unlock the elevator

The canon ending for 2:SoTFS is the PC left to make the world Dark. Being free from the curse they stopped anyone from relighting the flames Immortally.

My headcanon for 3 is other parts of the world, not too far in the future, most likely places we've heard about in drangleic, experiencing the Darkening of the world, and the main character attempting to find some sort of safety.

I do not doubt they'll try to throw 2's PC in there somewhere ambiguously, so the m/f choice can be unclear but still have the presence like they're around somewhere.

Crescent Axe is medium to low tier in both, really, but it's better in 1 because it has no sweetspot hitbox. it's better in 2 because it has long length and a good moveset for utilizing that length. Not to mention, the suprise 2handed spin2win running attack I mentioned in the other post.

With Enchant infuse in 2 it becomes really strong due to it's innate magic damage.

A good start would be making the Dragon Stone powers actually fucking useful.
The flame breath doing 5 damage a tic (AT BEST) and having meh poise damage is fucking stupid.
The Roar takes so much damn stamina that it's only worth using when you've bottomed out your stamina bar, and even then, most of the PvE enemies in the game don't give a fuck about it, and in PvP the stagger your opponent recieves is barely longer than your casting animation, leaving your vulnerable.

Now, if the flame did some more damage (I'm not expecting maxed pyromancy flame shit here, but I'd think it'd be fine if it was roughly as strong at max Dragon rank. Shit, give us incentive to get 99 Dragon Scales to get a beefy flame like a +5 Ascended or something along those lines.
As for the roar? Make it like the Beast Roar from Bloodborne. Ragdoll some bitches with it. Then it'd be worth it.

Editing is decent, song choice could've been better, but that's based on taste, and the action was good.

I would of finished off the last scene with a quick 3 stage zoom in on the person trying to use humanity, following the song, and as soon as you hit them with the estoc a glass breaking sound effect goes off, and the screen shatters into peices revealing blackness.

Along the more technical lines, the editing was alright, but there were times where speeding up would have been better instead of jump cuts. You're probably excited to show off your fancy editing effects, and believe me, I would be too. But, the jumps sometimes make it annoying to watch. Towards the end with the poisoned shield fella, the cross-fade struck me as somewhat annoying. A simple speed-up would have worked better.
I'd also have liked to have game audio in there.

I choose the name "Mid Level PvP" as an ironic thing. Im well aware I was being a cunt. That was my intention.

I used the jumps to keep it fast-paced and synced to the music. Jump cuts was the best strategy I could think of.

I used a crossfade with the shield guy because the recording messed up a bit. I figured that was the smoothest way to step over the error. Perhaps I should've made the fade shorter? Or something else entirely?

I cant use game audio, because shadowplay caught the podcast I was listening to at the time.

You're far better off using a dark claymore with dark weapon instead, since it's so much earlier and easier, and the buff duration scaling is seriously forgiving
Know that any ordinary weapon without element damage only gets 30% scaling, or +60 at max stat

Claymore is decent because it gives back a decent scaling for the path you infuse it, while retaining some attack from the physical scalings.

but in 2 it's almost always better to stack flynns, rob2, sacred oathe on an uninfused/raw/mundane weapon for a complete 150 damage boost to all your attacks, throw on a buff, and 200.

Especially effective on fast weapons with good tracking like the longsword or the poking weapon of your choosing.

on a weapon without inherent elemental damage, the split damage is almost never good.

On weapons like Fume Straight Sword, or Dragonrider weapons, infusing them with the appropriate element, then buffing them is godlike, especially Dragonrider with Enchant.

The point was not to blame PC players, it was to emphasize that it's a console series.
