The latter you can also get from guild quests, but there are some charms from enduring that you can't get from graven, like charms with 5 or 6 spirit.

You're better off doing juju and secret area mining for those. Guild quests are best when you're looking for a combination skill charm like one with edgemaster, but otherwise the other methods tend to be better just because of how many more charms per hour you can get.

I'm playing through MH3U and I'm having trouble with the Giginox.

I'm fighting it with the Long Sword and am either dying, getting frustrated, or running out of time.

Should I try to beat it with a ranged weapon or with a shield weapon? I figure either would be easier because the neck sweep is what's getting me with its ridiculous range.

If you use a flash cart like gateway, from what I hear it's a bitch and risky.

If you run rxtools on under 9.2 firmware, it's 100% safe. Time consuming to set up for the first time and it won't fit on a default card that comes with a 3ds, but I've been playing online for a while now with no problems.

Learn his moves and when he poisons. Get a fire long sword, sns, or any lance. Or just craft a hunting horn (do the self buff for crazy speed) preferably with fire. If you can craft any negate-poison sets do that. I think the wroggi set does that.

If all else fails use only lance or hunting horn, bring traps, bombs, bounce bombs, traps and maybe paralysis knifes.

The regular knifes are probably the hardest part to get haha.

Like I said though, try any lance or hunting horn. Really helps against the poison and overall defense.

If you're determined to use the longsword, remember to hit him from a distance so you can get away from him easier.

As always SnS is easiest to learn. Charge blade is kinda op and so is insect glaive.

If you want a hard challenge try starting with hammer or longsword, usually pretty hard to use against fast monsters from my experience. You've probably already played some of the other monster hunters, though so it's basically the same as previous games.

A lot of people say sns, but to me sns takes a good amount of skill to use proficiently and to have fun with, but that's just me.

GS and SA is what I started on in MH3u and found in MH4 that the IG is very user friendly.

attack and def songs are awesome. so is negate stamina for team mates. heat cancel and earplugs are good in the right situations

But yea, that's pretty much the best priority for the HH.

And anon if you want to use the HH right off the bat check out tuts on youtube or ask here for tips and tricks as the HH has quite a few interesting nuances.

Then I guess no one in MH is support. But seriously, when you're hunting with 3 more people, doing an ATK(L)+extension is probably more DPS than actually hitting the monsters. Of course, a good HHer will both hit the monster with the monster, play the song, and hit the monster with the extension.

Honestly it helped me a lot not getting my horn chipped all the time, but considering it's A) the extension of a pretty important buff that it's good to have at all times and B) it takes considerably less time to encore it than encoring other stuff, it's really a bad idea not doing it too, when you get the chance.

I believe you should start HH by just shitting on a monster, learn how to combo, survive, roll, keep self buffs up, and just ultimately fuck monsters in their faces.

Then, once you got that shit down begin focusing on the songs to add in with your combos.

You should never be like, 'oh shit, brb bros, gotta play some sick tunes!'
Your party should be like, holy shit you're like a konchu with 1500 raw that buffs us with your courage and barding.

The best HH I've played with never left the weakspot of a monster, ever, and the buffs never faded.

Yeah, ideally I try to play like that too (I play pretty much exclusively HH myself). One of the benefits of the class is that if played skillfully, you can play it in a variety of ways, since you work well with almost any set (as maestro is easy to gem and the only real necessary ability), and have access to considerable buffs that before being good for the party, are good for yourself. But even so, the weakspots of some of the monsters are hard to be constantly at sometimes, like fucking Gravios and Khezu. Another thing I like is that since HH melodies attract monsters, you're a perfect bait for traps. You can just set a trap in front of you, and sing the song of your people, and sure enough, the monster is going to try to slam your face, only to get into a trap and get rekt.

Also one at the end of the roundslash is often forgotten, but has its uses if you can time it right.

The action button on the touch screen will also do it, and you can remap it to the start button if you absolutely can't do it any other way.

Just to add, you can do a GP after ANY roundhouse; that is, the standard X, X, X combo, and also pressing X after any dodge will result in a rounshouse. Very useful for repositioning while still attacking.

I personally find Diablos easiest to test with. It's just a bull fight. Jho is good for learning tremor GPs, though.

You forget that most of the people who watch AGDQ have no fucking clue about any game's intricacies, much less MH's. "Marathon strats" are a thing for that very reason. What do you mean by less RNG? I've been playing with Dasding's quest editor, and as far as I can tell, monster HP is still variable by +/-25%, and where you spawn is still random. The only thing it's good for is making non advanced quests.

Rajang is the worst designed boss fight ever, jesus fucking christ.

Openings have such a small window of opportunity
His leg brushing against you is enough to send you into an elliptic fit rolling on the ground
Can combo tree throw into lightning by doing a meaty lightning attack hitting you as soon as you wake up
Can do a fucking autistic ape combo that doesn't end until 2 minutes swinging his fist, but then does it again for 2 seconds to trick you.
Blanka balls when you think you have a chance to hit him.

Is this the boss where I give up, get a gunner set and cheese shit?

Pastebin is fine. The only things it's missing right now are MH4U weapons and anything regarding the mounting mechanic: when you jump off a ledge, or a wall, you can press X to reload, which also doubles as a leaping attack. If you're far enough from the ground, you can roll directly out of it. Evading into a wall, pressing A to climb it, and jumping off to reload is a really neat strategy.

Livid Griscannon is generally accepted to be the most effective Normal gun. Destiny's Arm is generally accepted to be the most effective Pierce gun. Both without limiter. Your mileage may vary. Furia is a good middleground, and its gimmick can be fun. It also looks fucking cool, so there's that.

They're all correct, just have to equip yourself for Rajang.
I had a super hard time with him and to this day
I find him unenjoyable, but he's very beatable
and pretty easy once you get a set for the fight
and learn how to deal with him.

Just keep trying him out, take breaks to fight fun shit, then get back at him.

Then when you beat him, let other new guys know how you dealt with the cunt.

I did it guys, all I had to do was take it slow and attack only when I knew I was safe.

When you're on the ground, just don't press any buttons. You can wait like 3-4 more seconds before getting up, time during which you're invulnerable. A monster can just charge over you without hurting you. Very good against shit like Apex Blos for instance where he'll send you flying, turn around then charge again as you're getting up without giving you a change to dodge.

I can switch out Weakness or C+2 for evasion +1, should I? If so, which? I'm not too swag at evading invuln, so is evade up better for a scrub? Or should I just gitgud and learn to time my evades? After all, I just evade to cancel animations mostly with HH.

How's the hammer and greatsword compare?

I'm a greatsword main, never even wanted to fuck about with hammer since there's barely any point going from one slow heavy hitter to another, but I recently decided to hunt a couple things with it for fun.

and I'm killing things faster and smoother than with the gs. With the greatsword it feels very spiky but the hammer just feels like a steady line of high damage.

There's no damage disparity or anything of the ilk since they are both just the first seregios weapon, and I'm using armor fitted for crit draw which should give the GS an advantage but I'm still getting better results with the hammer.

Is my playstyle just better suited to a hammer than greatsword?

It's better to learn to iframe things without evasion though, results in even more damage. I don't use evasion on any of my sets and roll things every hunt, though I'd probably put it on a lance set if I used lance.

There are a lot of attacks that you can't iframe through, though. The attack lasts longer than the default amount of frames. You're right; I can evade through Gravios's beam swipe with EE if I time it right, but I don't think you can do that without any evasion enhancements whatsoever.

And at the end of the day, it makes things more enjoyable for those of us who aren't Japanese RTA dodge-gurus.

Actually, I answered that rather quickly. You'll always bounce on certain areas, like his head, and I think his tail tip. Blue SHOULD (SHOULD) be enough for his legs.

He's actually really easy to get a hang of. One of the more fair monsters, for sure. Teo can be a bitch (triple carted a room I was in earlier in about two minutes because of some sick combos), but as long as you're not too far away from him, he won't go nuts with charges. Observe him for a little bit until you get a handle on his patterns.

Remember to run away 90 seconds after he enrages so you don't get Nova'd.

I find that even with a good deal of practice, Teostra only changes from an infuriating monster to just an average, uninteresting one.

Whereas Kushala Daora is another story altogether. It went from my most hated monsters in any MH titles to one of my favorite elder dragons, I hated it so hard at first he nearly caused me to snap my 3DS in half, but now I enjoy him as much if not more than Chameleos. Learning how to fight him properly made all the difference. Granted, he's still complete bullshit if you don't have poison and/or windres, and have such a strict requirement on him can be a nuisance.

MHFU lvl 4 quests here, I started out using HH then switched to LBG. So far its still working well, except on Green Plesioth. I can kill him & avoid his attacks no problem, it just seems to take forever compared to every other monster so far, he sponges up damage like crazy compared to everything else ive fought. If you're asking if it's worth the points, then probably not. In some fights it might add an extra paralysis, but not in the majority, I would say.

I know he's weak to thunder, so i was starting with that, then switching to normal shot lvl3 with full conga armor giving me +10 to normal shot. then switching to pierce when i ran out of ammo. i only have pierce lvl 2 so far, and as i understand it, the longer the bodymass it goes through, the more hits you score with pierce? I switched from psp to emulator for dual analogue camera control but it makes first person targeting a bitch to use compared to psp. I'd say it's more about avoiding becoming reliant on the skill. 10 frames is enough to get through many attacks, so personally I don't go over that. Lance does have a special gimmick with Evasion+3, where the triple hop chains the iframes together for 1.8 seconds of invulnerability.

I think the strategy is to kill Zinogre first while smoking so you don't draw Rajang aggro, but if it goes south and you're fighting them both at once then definitely kill Rajang first since Zinogre is pretty easy to deal with.

That's on the slow side, but it's not abyssmal.

Their health is bloated insofar as you'd expect for a G1 monster in a G3 quest, but they also have reduced health by virtue of being a multi monster quest.

If I were to solo it, I'd expect a time between 20 and 25 minutes.

Don't be retarded like the pastebin. LBGs are fine rapid firing normal (vayu) or pierce (nether phloxion) too. Sure, HBG is "better" but not significantly enough that that you should avoid LBGs that can rapid normals and pierces too.

There is a story in all of the MH games. The story is mainly the same, village is under attack by an Elder Dragon and you have to stop it by hunting a shit ton of lesser monsters and crafting gear worthy of a Monster Hunter™. MH4 has the best story though each one's ending cut scene always makes me feel a bit sentimental. Especially 3's in which the village bids you farewell since you're most likely moving on to bigger hunts around the world, or simply stop playing the game and never see them again.

Khezu is fucking terrible. It has the same 3 attacks over and over again that are easy to bait out. Gigginox is way more aggressive, climbs walls, lays eggs, spews poison. Smaller roster yes, but better base monsters too.

Exactly the problem with Khezu. It's moveset is shit. 3rd gen monsters had much better movesets and much better gimmicks. What is the difference between Red Khezu and Khezu? Nothing. What is the difference between Gigginox and Crimson Gigginox? Quite a lot. Almost all of the 3rd Gen revamps of monsters are superior to their original. Queropeco is a much better fight than all three Kut Ku variants.

Not too sure about that one. Khezu was never hard just annoying. He did the radiant aoe lightning attack way too frequently so there wasn't that much time to actually attack him in between that attack and him on the ceiling of a cave.

Why does the Tetsucabra pull a huge boulder from the ground in front of it? What's the point? It doesn't do anything with it, it has no purpose, it doesn't deal damage, it just pulls it out of the ground and leaves it there.

It's true. The Tigrex fight is fucking atrocious.

Tigrex's entire moveset consists of the following: Run Forward, Spin in Place, Spin and Move Forward, Throw Rocks. He occasionally adds Bite in there. That's 4-5, if you count the stationary and moving Spins as two different attacks.

Compare that to a well designed monster, like Deviljho. In Deviljho's MH3 appearance, which had the smallest moveset, Deviljho had Tailwhip, Lunging Bite, Fury Chomps, Stomp, Dragonbreath, Nipping Bite and Hipcheck. That's 7, just off the top of my head. 8, actually, he also threw rocks. Deviljho had TWICE as many moves as Tigrex in his first appearance, and his repertoire has only increased since then.

Brute Tigrex is a much better fight because the roars add some much needed variety to Tiggers. But regular Tigrex is fucking trash, it really, really is. Which is a shame, because Tigrex has so much personality.

Molten Tigrex is shit for completely different reasons, mostly that he's too big to fit his own moveset.

Tigrex at debut actually has 100 different moves. To name a few: Tigrex Lunge, Tigrex Bite, Tigrex Roar, Tigrex Throw, Tigrex Move Forward, Tigrex Move Backward, Tigrex Jump Forward, Tigrex Jump Forward But A Bit Further, etc.
