Game's too hectic during combat and too slow on everything else. There's very little emphasis on being a good aimer or timing your shit. Everything is designed for twitchy kids high on sugar. Also hate shit like being able to walk through teammates.

Full skins with radical changes would make it more difficult to tell who you're going up against in the heat of battle, would make more sense to just have some personal touches to characters than model overhauls, kind of like TF2.

In one of Ellohime's streams the devs talked about the level progression. Each time you level up you unlock a cosmetic so it makes more sense to do it piecemeal.

I would definitely see this as a full F2P move then. I think if they could somehow do what Valve does for workshop skins, they could have the community just keep the game going from cosmetics Blizzard doesn't even have to make.

This game is casual as fuck. Every single character has an auto-aim or some colossal AOE you can't miss with. Not to mention a movement skill that automatically puts them at their optimal positioning. 'heh lets give the rocket character a button that lets them instantly be in the sky!'

The game is built from the ground up to appeal to little kids who haven't yet developed fine motor control and deductive logic. The lowest common denominator is their primary customer, so they cater to it.

Essential Tier: Mercy, Symmetra, Winston (Payload, Attacking) OR Reinhardt(Not Payload), Lucio OR Zenyatta (Lucio is probably better though), Widowmaker

Good Picks: All the rest except:

Unnecessary Tier: Torbjorn,
Unnecessary but Fun Tier: Roadhog

The differences between the various "good picks" is based on player skill; Pharah has a lower skill ceiling than Junkrat but a higher skill floor, meaning the average Pharah is better than the average Junkrat. Same with Soldier 76 and Hanzo, same with McCree and Tracer / Reaper

Of those last three, Tracer has the higher skill ceiling and the lower skill floor, a bad Tracer is very bad, a good Tracer is very good, her only downside is that her ult requires other peoples ults although I wouldn't be surprised her ability to 100% kill a super shielded Mercy ends up making her Essential for competitive (much like Scout is Essential in TF2 for killing Medics)

Even Torbjorn's turret sucks ass, because it takes him ages to build it to level 3 and then it dies in seconds.

Sentries in TF2 are a huge gameplay element that can stall a game for a while, area denial that stops the enemy from pushing a certain area. Overwatched nerfed them into what's basically just an ability that might get a few kills and then die. But it was nerfed so hard there is literally no reason to play him over Bastion.

Anyhow, that's why the roster for Overwatch seems kind of bloated. That's what I was getting at. They had those leftover character designs that were part of asymmetrical-but-similar concepts and suddenly they just had a ton of free floating character concepts they wanted to stick somewhere.

Blizzard is literally just feeding us their garbage at this point in their attempts to branch out to a new gaming genre.

The downside to Bliz's approach to adding new playstyles through adding new characters is that a year or two down the line your shiny store cosmetics are going to be useless because now you're maining Butterface McHugeTits and she can't wear all of Tracer's barrettes or goggles or whatever.

Maybe they won't be adding a bunch more heroes though.

It's not even close

Plasma Canons shoot more of a "round" of plasma, as opposed to this particle canon's constant stream. Also a plasma canon is more likely to blow up horribly on the user more often then not. Also, more bulky

HoTS has done ok. Not GREAT and not nearly on the level of LoL or Dota, but its got a significant following.

There aren't many other game in this genre that are this well done. I love TF2, but it has HUGE balance issues, especially in the pro scene. OW has a lot more going for it and frankly the TF2 crazy has died out a long time ago.

This game was made with a competitive scene in mind. Even a game like Hearthstone, which was NOT made with a pro scene in mind, has a strong following. It too has huge balance issues, but its very accessible and its a familiar brand.

Overwatch will do well and it will have a competitive scene. The real argument is how big and for how long. I think it will probably reach TF2 levels at its height in terms of popularity, but how long that lasts will depend greatly on patches and content updates. Now how well it will do competitively to a competing game like CSGO I could not tell.

Zero chance it will get to Dota/Leauge levels, though

Mechanically the game is pretty good. Has a decent skill cap, good potential for growth in terms of team strategies and relatively fun to watch. However it seems to be missing something. I think there's not quite enough satisfaction in winning and losing which surprisingly can make a big difference in how well a game goes. If you watch TF2 dev commentary, you'll hear them talk about how important is was that the payload actually exploded when the attacking team wins and how the humiliation section was there to make winning very satisfying. All Overwatch games end pretty anticlimactically, everything just slows down then a pretty apathetic robot voice says "victory." If they want a lot of replayability, they need to add in a few small touches to provide more reward incentives to players.

Titan was started when WoW was at its height. 12m subs, raking in cash. Possibly biggest PC game ever at the time.

Titan was cancelled after WoW has hemmohraged subs for 3 years, hearthstone is raking them in LODES o money with a 20 man dev team, and HotS seemed to be shaping up well. It could have been the game wasnt looking good, but add all those factors to the fact someone literally quoted saying "all that matters is money" just took over leadership and it looks like it was axed for profit reasons.

I enjoy the multi skill combat aspect of MMOs more than anything

it's why DA:O is such an amazingly good game
and why WoW is fucking abysmal

Yea but it's not very satisfying at all. Like think about other big games and how they handle success and defeat. HS ends with a portrait blowing up. Mobas end with an ancient blowing up. CS:GO (usually) end with a bomb blowing up. Overwatch literally just fizzles out and even though it may seem like a small thing, in terms of how the human brain is wired to provide reward and pleasure, that is a terrible design choice.

Pretty much right now the game seems very sterile. Deaths don't seem as big when there's no gibbing and no kill shot (something that again the TF2 devs make a very big note of pointing out as important to game design), there's not a big noticeable kill feed in the corner (which is also very important for creating hype) and matches end very quietly. Pretty much the game lacks a good sense of satisfaction and progression which is absolutely crucial in a F2P game.

Such a lackluster pseudo-launch. It's just a bunch of people that have no idea what they're doing or talking about awkwardly trying to help thousands of people experience the game vicariously through their gameplay.

For the next week it won't be "Me and Jim had so much fun in the overwatch beta!"

Instead it will be "I saw some guy on twitch play it, it looked kind of shitty but I don't know. I waited an entire day for beta access but eventually just got tired of checking for it. I don't know, maybe if I remember I'll check on it again in a week or two, for now I'll just start picking up a different game."

People don't seem to realise just how many options we have in terms of games and how easily dropping the ball on shit like this can make or break your game. Recently wildstar royally FUCKED their re-launch and it destroyed their only attempt at making a comeback into the MMO scene.

Hell for all this new player knows he's garbage with all the starting heroes and good with the unlockable ones. I know for a fact I'm shit with a large variety of heroes in Dota 2, but I'm decent at Pugna and Winter Wyvern. This could've been more interesting if they'd done this instead of HOTS. Put those map modes they made for HOTS into it - You've got this lore about a Robot war, plenty of ability to fit in seige camps, bruiser camps, your minion waves etc, and it would've actually had something (being an FPS) to distinguish it from Dota/Lol, which is HOTS's problem.

Instead we got a mediocre TF2 clone
